T-Mobile�s New Data Plans
"Just when you thought they couldn�t get any cheaper�.T-Mobile is set to completely revamp their data plan lineup with a new pricing scheme that is sure to make subscribers swoon. Beginning tomorrow, September 12th, the big Pink will be dropping updates to their BlackBerry and Total Internet plan offerings. The Total Internet add-on, which includes unlimited web browsing and data service for devices such Wing and Dash, will drop from $29.99 to $19.99. Sweet! The BIS add-on will remain at $19.99 for customers in need of the full BlackBerry email/web browsing experience. For anyone simply looking for an email solution, however, things are about to get very interesting. T-Mobile is launching a new BlackBerry add-on plan that will give customers access to any BIS-accessible email accounts for $9.99 a month."
The downside to the new price changes comes for those using the stand-alone Blackberry Internet Service, which jumps from $29.99 to $39.99 per month. These prices should be reflected in retail channels today and on tmobile.com beginning on the 16th. For new users, I didn't see any changes on the site yet, but one poster on the linked news site said they were able to log into their account and make the change to their plan already. Check it out!

Seriously, it is high time that Canadian cellular providers got with the times. It is obvious what the problem is, though. There are only three carriers in this country, and two of them are cdma! This leaves Rogers as the national monopoly for GSM coverage. So, what is the incentive to drop rates? Literally NONE! And Canadians continue to take it UTA (you can figure out that one on yer own, kids) and pay the high rates. Do any of you Canadians out there know anyone who actually uses a mobile device for anything other than very modest online usage? Aside from a handful of blackberry users, I certainly don't, and their units and coverage fees are picked up by their companies.
So, who is going to take on Roger's in the GSM arena? Is there anyone preparing the way? T-mobile? I mean, it's tough, all this land and only 33.4 million people, so I understand the issue for companies looking to expand. They go to Europe.
For the foreseeable future, mobile internet will be out of reach for the masses in Canada.
Now where did I put that info on acquiring a work visa?

Come to Europe, most European countries now have flat, unlimited HSDPA / HSUPA access.

Yeah...I pay $5 for 10MB of data on Rogers. Before that, I paid $5 for 2MB. :mrgreen:

Does anyone know if the $19.99 plan includes VPN access? I have an old old $19.99 plan with T-mobile that does include VPN. I would like to switch because everytime I do anything with my account of the family account, they have to jump through hoops to keep my old discontinued plan on the account.

I had my plan switched over yesterday. I'm still getting the unlimited EDGE and Hotspot access, but the APN defaulted back to internet2 (I had the VPN access on internet3 previously).
All it took was calling in to Technical Support (not customer care) to get my plan switched to use internet3, but it's not costing me anything additional.
Despite the lack of 3G, T-Mobile still has the best wireless service (both in quality of customer service and prices) in the USA.

T-Mobile's Total Internet add-on also includes HotSpot access. I have had the Internet add-on for quite sometime, but this is the first time I've seen both services in one package. And it's for the same price, $19.99. Not bad for just calling CustSer and asking to change the add-on to the Total Internet.

I think it's a first sign that T-Mobile will officially anounce 3G. Being long term customer I've learned that T-Mo starts shuffling plans just before introdusing something new
