New iPaqs On The Way
"Things have been quiet over at HP since the release of the iPAQ Voice Messenger 500 series. But that's about to change. Plans are afoot to release a flurry of new devices in several families, according to French site PPCReviews.net. The new lines, ranging from series 100 up to 900, will feature the new naming convention started with the iPAQ 500 series."
We've had a couple of reports about new devices coming from HP, but Gadgetorama has further details on expected capabilities that seem to put the rumours on firmer footing. HP are expected to release full details in September, and I already can't wait to hear what they have in store.

Just confirms my notion that waiting a bit longer would be in my best interest. Right now, i'm still pretty happy with my HP2215 but it's getting close to the end of its service life. The audio jack doesn't work anymore, nor does the center joystic thing. I'm tempted to get the Sprint mogul, but Im not sold on that route just yet.
C'mon HP, blow me away and don't leave anything out!

Are you kidding me?
Are you kidding me?
I was an "early adopter" of the COMPAQ iPaq (3600) back in 2000. I loved that machine. Then I got the 5500, it was nice. I was an iPaq fan, big time. Then HP took over; it all went to hell about that time and only got worse.
They are going to have to work pretty hard to convince me that they have any idea what a PDA should be.
I understand that HTC designed the first iPaq (is that true?) -- they still make awesome products (I current run the Cingular 8525 and love it). I wonder, who is making HP's new offering?

HTC was the producer of most top models of that time, iPAQ, Dell, LOOX, Palm, you name it, they made it, allso the iPAQ 2000 and 5000 series, and the Axim x50 series 8O
The 2210/2215 is still one of the 10 most versatile PPC's ever made, right in there with the Axim x50's and iPAQ 4700.
While HP have the new 2000 series, I still don't understand why the 4700 and Axim went out of bussyness :?:
I'm verry exited to see new iPAQ's, and hope they are worth waiting for, but if the source of the news, is the same, who claimed WM6 for the 2000 series, then maybe it's another waporware storry :?

I remember that it was an HP Europe source that claimed that WM6 would be added to the 2795....I'm still waiting. There have been too many bail outs from major companies (Dell, Palm, Sony) for me to believe that HP is going to carry on the PPC mantra.
I'm going to continue "trying" to use a Motorola Q as if it were really a PPC. I've read about people who claim a smartphone is as good as a PPC but so far I still use my 2795 far more than my Q.

how exciting. I just hope they hit the market before they are 6 months out of date as per usual HP style.

It sounds too good to be true, so I'll try not to get my hopes up too much.
I've been very happy with my 4700 (carrying a separate phone is fine with me), and would love to have an updated version. I think the HTC 7501 is just a bit too bulky for me, and I don't need the keyboard.

I agree 100%! I also started with the iPAQ 3650, then 1910, then 5500, then to the Axim x50v after Compaq sold out to HP & support went down the tubes. I long for the Palm Treo or the like with the 624 processor, 320x320 display, & more RAM/ROM. Until then, I am carrying the BB Pearl & my 3+ year old Dell Axim x50v. I was done with HP when I bought the highest end 5500 & they failed to offer WM2003SE when other suppliers were for their high end users. Note HP also left their 4700 users out in the cold as well.

Actually HP did make WM5 available for the 4700. I didn't like it, but no fault of HP's. There is nothing out there that beats the 4700 for my taste, although I loved the 2200 and still use it. I'll be very interested to check out the new stuff, although the things I love - fast with large VGA screen - aren't the vogue these days, alas.
