Default Toshiba Portege G900 News Roundup

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=4003

We have three articles on the G900 today - two good, and one very bad:

theunwired.net has a very nice photo review of the unit, covering all the angles; as well as

an unboxing video.

The bad news? Like some have reported in our forums, Engadget Mobile has picked up on a serious bug relating to coming out of standby - in short, it won't. According to the post Toshiba is working on a fix, but no timetable for release has been issued yet.

Somebody on MyG900.com suggested unchecking the "Turn off device if not used for" option (Settings -> Power -> Advanced). Apparently this means the cpu never goes to sleep - so there are no waking up issues - not sure if any Guru's can confirm this? Of course you can still use the power button to turn off the screen - so battery life is still fine.

Anyway - it's working for me as a temporary fix. I've gone from 3 or 4 "standby of deaths" a day to none. Actually that's not entirely true - it just did it now (1st time in a week) - but the setting had been rechecked for some reason!!!

Your first assumption is correct, but your following statement is wrong - pushing the power button is the equivalent of "putting the CPU to sleep", it does not just turn the screen off (there's a separate way to do that). The only thing I can think of is that there's a fault in the way Toshiba implemented software initiated suspend.
