Default Wireless Power Closer To Becoming A Reality For Consumers

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/06/070619183553.htm

[/i]"The mess of electrical cables that recharge our laptops, mobile phones and PDAs could soon disappear altogether -- at least according to a team of US physicists, who have shown how power can be transmitted without wires using special "resonant" antennas. The researchers used the system to power a 60-W light bulb placed two metres from a wireless transmitter, and say that it could be scaled down for use in portable devices without a loss of efficiency."[/i]

Read the article to see how they have overcome the problem of omnidirectional power output. Obviously, the next logical conclusion is transporter beams, energy shields and transporters are in the works, right?

I think this is very cool... The only issue I have is the human factor... That by transmitting 'power', is there any radiation being emitted or other issue that can cause bodily harm? We have power all around us and under normal use, is not a problem.... But to have 60W flowing from a transmitter through your arm to a PDA charger is another story...

Just think: This could make the pacemaker obsolete.
