Default Syntrax - The Free Mobile Music Studio

http://www.finished.nl/index.html

"Meet Syntrax, the long awaited sequel to Jaytrax, the first software synthesizer and sequencer on the PocketPC. It has all the modern musician wants when away from the studio! A sequencer, sound synthesis and sample editor all wrapped up in a nice little package! Syntrax runs on Symbian devices as well as the PocketPC. Syntrax is the first and only professional music package for the mobile phone. Syntrax is packed with all the professional features you might expect from a mobile music studio. This includes MIDI support, a sequencer, sample editing, software synthesizer, realtime echoes, morphing etc."

Needing to work on your music while you're on the go? If your idea of doodling is mixing a few tracks, give Syntrax a try. Best of all, it's free!

Looks AWESOME! This is a must have download for me :0) I once owned a Synclavier (oh what a BEAST) and it just blows me away how far we have come! Anyone remember the Casio VL-Tone? Let's hope they keep developing this great app further ...

As a former Fairlight CMI (Mark II) user I wholeheartedly agree with how far we've come in just 25 years. I still have a soft spot for these old beasts (there's something sexy about 8" floppies, but maybe that's just me) except when we had to move them! :-)

Anyone know how MIDI is implemented on this? I'd kill for a way to deliver MIDI info via USB or Bluetooth. It would be invaluable for gigging musicians. I honestly cringe when I see perfectly good musicians fiddling with a laptop during a performance (as you can tell I'm not a fan of the latest soft synth/controller keyboard trend). If you must use a soft synth at least keep it hidden so it's not so distracting on stage.

Edit:

Kudos to the developers for making this free. It's something I'd shell out a tenner for on the spot.
