Microsoft Releases Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista
"The Windows Mobile Device Center enables you to set up new partnerships, synchronize content and manage music, pictures and video with Windows Mobile powered devices (Windows Mobile 2003 or later). The Windows Mobile Device Center combines an efficient business-data synchronization platform with a compelling user experience. The Windows Mobile Device Center helps you to quickly set up new partnerships, synchronize business-critical information such as e-mail, contacts and calendar appointments, easily manage your synchronization settings, and transfer business documents between your device and PC. This new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center contains key improvements and new features to support Windows Mobile 6 devices. The Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is only supported on Windows Vista."
It's no secret. The original Windows Mobile Device Center release caused far too many headaches for its users, so here's hoping today's release of v6.1 is one giant analgesic. The list of changes includes improved Windows Mobile 6 support (namely, IRM activation, HTML mail sync, certificate enrolment, data connections, and file sync for Smartphones) and automatic device authentication. Positive or negative - please post your experiences here.

Well, it would be nice to get it to work.
The early beta did work, but after installing the final version it just crashes at startup. Although this version shows up a splash screen and after that does nothing. (probably crashes at background)
I think I've tried everything except reinstalling vista.

Yey! Perfect timing! I just deleted my partnership with my Vista system aiyah [I used to sync with XP + AS4.5 and Vista + WMDC]! Can anyone confirm that syncing media [music and videos] now works properly? In 6.0 when I sync music the connection gets cut after a few Mb worth of data.

This is the reason I keep my XP machine, and am afraid to sync with my Vista machine. I hope to hear that this is working properly. So far, it doesn't sound very good.

Problems?
I've never had problems with "Windows Mobile Device Center".
It was a lot easier saying "ActiveSync".

Well, it's installed, and I still can't copy largish files to the device...
"the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected"
C'mon, MS

Fortunately, WMDC has never caused me any problems with my Spring PPC 6700.

Well i got home and installed it.. And as usual it was a huge mess.
I synced before i did the install as a safety precaution, good thing.
After install i tried to sync again and got an error about activesync recovering from a critical failure and that i might have lost any data since my last successful sync...
So i pressed the sync button again... where it then (as usual) duplicated every contact, appointment, and task i had... Thank god for SK Tools and its duplicate PIM finders.
So after cleaning up the mess it seems to be ok....
The good news it that the weird error i had with the tasks syncing one day off now appears to be gone! So not a total loss.. but close..
