Default Japan Welcomes SoftBank's X01T

http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/new...PDA+phones.html

You've seen this one before. It's Toshiba's G900, which packs GSM/UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a 2.0-megapixel camera, a biometric scanner, and a 3" WVGA touch screen - all with Windows Mobile 6 Professional to boot. SoftBank will offer it in both white and black; unfortunately, a drop date and price have yet to be revealed.

Update: It'll be released in August. Just waiting on a price now.

I fancy the Toshiba. Nice big, hi-res screen.

I want one here, and I want it NOW.

The device is undoubtedly one of the most visually unappealing device that I've seen to date. I'm a big fan of large VGA screens but this one is only .2 inches bigger than your standard 2.8 display, so what's the big deal? And it only appears to be longer, same width, but just longer? where's the practicality in that? I can't lie, I'm digging the biometric scanner, that awsome. But all and all this device is UGLY!
Boy, I can't wait till the I-Mate Ultimate Series is launched. Does anyone have the dates?
Till next time, Frankie, Signing off.

I think this version looks better

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/12/t...dows-mobile-6/

Plis it's not actually VGA, it's 800x480 ... extra wide. Better for surfing and watching movies :-D

Will any of these new converged devices with Windows Mobile 6 and VGA screens EVER make it to the USA????????????

I am using an old Sprint cell phone and an old Dell Axim X50V and I am ready to move to one of these new devices but it seems like the opportunity to actually buy one is never going to happen.

Default Here's What you do

Here's what you do:

I would suggest getting a GSM carrier like T-Mobile or Cingular. I use to be with Sprint Which I think is the best provider but they do not support phones that they haven't branded.
I went with T-Mobile - who actually has an "Unsupported Phones Department" which is awsome.

So now I: See it, want it, import it, stick my sim in there, configure it, and enjoy it. No more hoping for a phone to come to the US.
But you have to ask yourself: "Is it all worth it?". If you were to ask me that I would respond by telling you: "You bet your crap-shoot it was." Simply because of freedom freedom to purchase any device I can afford and change device form day-to-day if I want.
I'm a proud owner of: 7 (broken) PPC 6600; an XDA Exec; and a Vodafone v1640. Also bidding on another XDA Exec as I type this.

To answer you origional question: I've herd no rumors of this phone coming to the US and there's a good chance it won't ever get here.
Also, can you be more specific with what you mean by "converged device" becuae theoretically all the device discussed ion this site are converged devices.

Frankie1, are you smoking something?
Sprint the best provider??? LOL

I have no loyalty over any carrier but I can assure you Sprint is not the best service provider period.

Also, just because T-Mobile has a "Unsupported Phones Department" was the reason why you choose to go that route?

Lucky for me and millions of others that are in the same boat we choose to do a search on mobile phone forums to get honest answers about questions pertaining to a service provider or even a phone. I guess a simple opening of a cover and inserting a SIM card into it was all the support I needed when I wanted to use a non branded phone for any GSM service provider.
If I was unsure of what phone would work a simple google search would produce some great answers.

To go back on to the topic, I would say that this Toshiba PDA is not bad looking. Its actually pretty nice for a side slider w/keyboard.

I would still like to know which Qualcomm chip this thing uses (MSM7200? MSM7200A?). As I really need a phone with UMTS850 and 2100 bands(850mhz most important).

The MSM7200A is a quad-band HSDPA chip, and its the only Qualcomm chip I know of capable of running W-VGA video at above 30fps. The problem with this chip is that it is clocked higher than any of the other Qualcomm chips, so will use more power.

(It would also have the Qualcomm GPSOne chip built-in, though probably not functioning like on the HTC devices)

Oh, and the black one looks sexy.
