Default HTC P4000 (HTC Titan) Released on Telus

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...d.php?t=1153541

The HTC Titan is a CDMA device that sports a 200MHz TI processor, 64MB RAM, 256 MB ROM, a 2 MP camera, and EV-DO Rev. A (yummy!). Dave Evans (aka Paragon) has a short photo review up with a full review on the way, while Engadget has more details on pricing and contract ($200 and three years). If this device is on your radar scope (given the rarity of CDMA-based Windows Mobile devices, it almost has to be if you're on a CDMA network), these articles shouldn't be missed.

Update 04/30/07
Link to Dave's article updated and it's been upgraded to a full review!

I should point out that when this phone was first rumored to be released it was speculated that it had the TI OMAP processor. It actually has the new Qualcomm 7500 dual core processor running at 400mhz. This makes sense for a CDMA phone.

What Qualcomm have done with this processor is quite similar to what TI has done with the OMAP, and that is to build a chip with many integrated parts, including memory, cellular and Wifi radios all into that single chip. So far it seems to be a pretty snappy processor.

Also, it does not have REV A. It can and will be upgraded to REV A when Telus launch their REV A network upgrade. It is hoped...and I repeat HOPED that they will offer a WM6.0 upgrade at that time as well....but we all know to take upgrades with a grain of salt.

For those of us 6700 owners, when we first started learning about this phone it didn't seem like much of an upgrade to the 6700, however after using it for a few days I can honestly say it is a worthy upgrade. This is a very decent phone compared to any new phone soon to be released.

Improvements over the 6700 include:
-256mb ROM (double that of the 6700)
-spring loaded keyboard, with a rubber coating on the keys- easy to use
- indicator lights for caplock and function
- 30% thinner
-jog wheel
- EVDO REV A upgradable
-2.0mp camera
- AKU 3.3
-A2DP stereo Bluetooth
- slightly larger battery- 1500mAh opposed to the 6700's 1350mAh
- a real dpad opposed to the joystick the 6700 had, as well as several more buttons, including a button for wifi
- better and louder phone volume and quality of sound, both on the handset and BT.

Personally I think this is the nicest WM phone I've used yet.

Dave

So which is it, 400MHz or "dual core" 200Mhz cpu? Does anyone have an idea when Sprint will start offering this?

Under device information it says "400mhz".
I don't know if it is dual core but it was my impression that it was.

As Dave already knows......this purchase has vaulted me back into the PPC world after selling my HP 2000 and going to the Q......which won't be missed.

I should be back on here regularly again and maybe even have to show up to the PPC User Group meetings again.

I have to get up to speed on the best software again.....sigh.

Here is a great link for the qualcomm MSM7500 procerssor:
http://www.cdmatech.com/download_lib...00_chipset.pdf

To answer PdaAddict's question the ARM11 core runs at 400mhz while the ARM9 core which handles the CDMA radio runs at 133 mhz.

Ha! Ha! Deemo's going to be spending all his money on Windows Mobile accessories again.

BTW.....if you want to become even more confused about the processor's abilities here are some benchmarks for you. They compare the P4000, it's predecessor the 6700 using a 400mhz xscale, and the new HTC X7500 (Advantage) running a 624mhz Xscale

I suppose that graphics index number is wrong then?

Would have been good to see the samsung 400mhz in that graph since isn't it the best cpu at the moment?

See, that's why I said there is a need to do knowledgeable interpretation of benchmarks. As I stated the x7500 is a VGA device, whereas the P4000 is not, therefore the x7500 has to deal with 4 times the data, this is going to show and adverse effect on the graphics benchmark.
