Panasonic Release Windows CE-Powered Toughbook
"There it is, the Panasonic ToughBook CF-08, tough because if you accidentally let it fall down (from about 1 meter high) it should survive! Inside is an XSCALE (PXA270@312Mhz) CPU and a list of usual options such as Wifi B/G, Bluetooth 1.2, XGA Touch Screen (10.4 inches), USB, Ethernet...the autonomy depends on the level of brightness, from 4.5 to 14 hours! Of course as the title says, the OS Is a Microsoft Windows CE."
Panasonic is well-known for building the Toughbook line of very durable, if expensive, laptops/thin-clients and the CF-08 is a CE-based tablet targetted squarely at vertical markets. Apart from the specs quoted above, Engadget reports that the device has 64MB RAM and ROM, which strikes me as taking thin and rugged a little too far. While no price has been noted, some digging revealed indicative retail prices between $1600 and $1800, which is really taking things too far, even for an industrial device (Nokia N800 anyone?).

This looks like a great device for some vertical market applications. It's high price might reflect its small total market. If they can make $$$, more power to them. Capitalism is a wonderful thing.
PS
They don't have much competition in the Rugged CE device catagory as far as I can tell.
