Default Minimo Updated To Version 0.2

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/

"Minimo is a small, simple, powerful and innovative, web browser for mobile devices, which is based on Mozilla technologies. to produce a highly usable web browser for Windows Mobile smartphones. Minimo 0.2 now includes best available support for modern web standards including Javascript and AJAX, social bookmarking, tabbed browsing (something the Internet Explorer Mobile still lacks), RSS support as well as Widget and Extension support!"

Darn! Just when an app gets really interesting, they turn it into WM5+ only! I got disappointed with Deepfish yesterday, now Minimo has just given me another low blow. If you ain't a dinosaur like me, go ahead and check out the 0.2 version - the biggest weakness of most WM browsers (pace Steve Jobs) is the lack of full support for the latest web technologies (ok, ok, layout matters too). It sounds like the mobile browser of our dreams is almost here!

Well, so far, the WM2003(SE) version was pretty much incompatible with most (all?) models I've tested it on (high CPU usage; very bad responsivity), in addition to about half of the WM5 / WM6 models (for example, the HTC UNiversal). That is, I don't necessarily think dropping WM2003(SE) support is that bad a thing - they just dropped support for a platform that has never been really supported.

In addition to Minimo, Opera Mobile has excellent support for even new technologies. So does - to a lesser degree - the forthcoming (and also WM5-only) NetFront 3.4. Opera Mobile's, for example, AJAX, CSS and CSS2 support is just great.

I'll publish a greatly upgraded version of my well-known WM Web Browsing Bible in a few days; in there, I also elaborate on these questions (along with Minimo 0.2 and Deepfish, of course).

Since when did Opera Mobile support AJAX? From what I can see they only have 8.6 available still for Windows Mobile.

0.2 does not work with my Blackjack. It opens, but there is no button(s) to control the tabs or the pallet at the bottom of the screen.

well...i got a chance to test out all the new browsers. I must say, im not impressed with the minimo at all. The new version of opera is actually alot more stable and faster. (prepare yourselves for this!!!) but off all...the new internet explorer for wm6 is by far the fastest and most reliable. I'd never thought i'd see the day i say mobile IE is better than opera, but microsoft really did a number on the new one. It makes me love wm6 even more.

Unfortunately for you, Minimo is designed for Pocket PCs. The Blackjack is a Smartphone.

Check out http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...c.php?p=433517 for a complete (!) comparison of 0.2 to both 0.1x and all the alternative browsers, including the brand new, just-released Opera Mobile 8.65!!!

Strange you've found the WM6 IEM actually faster than Opera 8.6x - the two Operas have always beaten WM6 IEM running on exactly the SAME WM6 Pocket PC.

I really recommend the benchmark data I've published in the comparison chart ( http://www.winmobiletech.com/032007W...ers/chart.html ) of my just-announced Web Browsing Bible; it certainly shows WM6 IEM is, in general, 1.5-2 times slower than the brand new Opera Mobile 8.65 with all kinds of Web pages (unless you use the One Column mode on IEM; then, it's "only" 1.25-1.5 times slower.)

It says for smartphones as well.

I believe they've used "smartphones" in the context that every smart phone (including Pocket PC Phones) is a "Smartphone". Analogous to Palm's labeling of its Treos as Smartphones, but contrary to Microsoft's preferred use of the term "Smartphone" - if that makes sense.

That said, I have seen cases of Minimo working on Smartphones, but it hasn't always delivered positive experiences. As you've identified, certain portions fail to work.
