Asus Releases the A626
"ASUS has launched the A626 ultra-slim PDA to answer the increasing demand of users who require a highly practical yet versatile PDA. This palm-sized marvel matches high quality with an impeccable standard of design and caters to the user�s expectations for personal handheld accessories. Exceptionally slim at only 1.57 cm, the ASUS A626 really stands out from most of the other PDAs on the market. The casing is made of stainless steel and the whole PDA is less than 158g in weight. Hidden in the myriad of new Asus devices is the A626. This standalone PDA is impressively slim and encased in stainless steel, but the excitement stops there, because you'll find the usual suspects inside - an Intel XScale 312MHz CPU, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.5" QVGA touch screen, and Windows Mobile 5.0. I'm intrigued. Where in the US can you get one? I had a VGA Asus that I loved. Sold it unwisely. I wish this one was VGA, but it's still pretty good looking. I'm looking for a replacement for my Dell. This might do it.

LOL -- More like about 3 years back. I like the stainless steel casing, but this is just ANOTHER example of why standalone PDAs are dieing. It's not because the market has completely died, it's because manufacturers haven't done anything to advance the market since Dell released the X50v and HP released the 470x!
Don't get me wrong, I love a converged device as much as the rest, but I've been using my reliable 4705 as much as anything else these days. The gorgeous screen combined with 12 GB of memory card storage makes this an excellent video player. Just think if HP had built onto this model with 8 GB of Flash memory, a game-usable D-Pad and buttons, built-in GPS, and EVDO or HSDPA radio for surfing anywhere. I would gladly carry that device along with a small cheap RAZR for phone calls. It would keep me from foolishly spending thousands of dollars on handtop PC's, as I've done over the last 2 years.  ops:

I kinda like this, the size is right and the overall look is right. After coming to the conclusion that I don�t need a qwerty (don�t use it as much as I thought I would and it�s not as usable as I had expected) I want the larger screen back. The Dash fits well in my pocket so my next device will be the closest device to the size of the Dash that has a large screen (though it must be converged.) If they can follow up with a converged version of this I�ll be very interested.
