Default .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 Redistributable Released

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&DisplayLang=en

"Service Pack 2 of the .Net Compact Framework V2.0 includes some new features in the Remote Performance Monitor aimed at finding memory leaks in the managed heap. These features allow you to take snapshots of the GC heap at any point in time and view the relationships between the live object instances in the heap. You can also compare multiple snapshots over time in order to spot allocation trends in your application as it executes. "

The latest redist of the .NET Compact Framework is available for devices running Windows Mobile 2003 and up. There's a long list of new features and bug fixes, which you can learn more about at the Download Center, and also a couple of very minor backward compatibility issues, which you can learn more about at the .NET Compact Framework Team Blog. The file weighs in at 37.6MB, but rest assured, the space consumed on a device is only a fraction of that.

Nice Catch.

Ugh, another update to existing devices. I can safely assume this build is NOT in the ROM of WM6...

Installed this a couple of days ago on my Toshiba e800 (WM2003 FirstE). It refused to install via the host computer and I had to get the cab from the programs file and copy it over manually.

Seems if you don't have AS 4.x the runtimes won't play nice. Note though, for the rest of the 2003 + SE crowd, you can install this to a card to save memory. The same files from SP1 will install themselves in whatever directory you specify (assuming you're using CABinstall if you're doing it manually).

Interestingly, most of the files seem to be a few K smaller than their SP1 versions. Code-refinement?

This is a change from the previous release of Net Compact v2, right? I thought the original release had to be installed in main memory. Am I correct?

How much main memory does it take on a WM5 device if it is installed to the card?

The previous release supported storage cards as well.

It looks like it takes about 1.2MB on the device.

Is there a way to tell what version of NETCF I have currently installed?

Thanks,
