E-TEN Announces Upcoming 3G Windows Mobile 6 Device
"E-TEN Information Systems will stage early demonstrations of its newest Pocket PC Phone at the upcoming CeBIT international trade show to be held from March 15 to 21, 2007. The new handset which is scheduled for release later in the year under E-TEN's own-brand, Glofiish, will be the company's first handset to feature 3G connectivity. As the world's largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments, CeBIT attracts several thousand international exhibitors and 100s of thousand of attendees each year. Guests at the E-TEN booth in 2007 will be given the opportunity to experience E-TEN's latest Pocket PC Phone for consumers and professional who are always on the move. E-TEN's latest handset is based on the recently announced Windows Mobile 6 software platform which offers new, richer ways to edit documents and emails, improved usability, and more powerful mobile functions. The new device will be the first from E-TEN to support 3G connectivity HSDPA/WCDMA. Also on show at the booth will be E-TEN's two most recent handset releases, the Glofiish X500, which at just 15.5mm is the company's thinnest Pocket PC device, and the Glofiish M700, featuring a sliding keyboard. All three Pocket PC Phones offer all-in-one connectivity with GSM, Wi-Fi and GPS, and include a 400MHz Samsung CPU and 128MB of Flash ROM."
W-CDMA/HSDPA? Check. Windows Mobile 6 Professional? Check. For the moment, that's about all we know of E-TEN's upcoming Glofiish, though all will be revealed in a fortnight's time.
Update: And in case you missed the last sentence of the quoted press release, GSM, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity are all included, alongside a Samsung (most likely, S3C2442) 400MHz CPU and 128MB ROM.

GPS check too. That makes for a pretty attractive package.

Hopefully this new device looks better than the other GloFiish ones

This is awesome news, Darius. Thanks for posting on it. My review of the ETEN M700 can be seen at pocketnow.com. The M700 is ok, but really should have been a 3G device. The keyboard could have been a little better, and the screen could/should have been larger. Its not a bad device, but could have been better.
Please look for some link love from both Gear Diary and pocketnow.com.

Thanks for the heads-up. I share much of the same sentiments toward the device. Feature set is decent, but the keyboard and design need a bit of work. Hopefully, this upcoming WM6 device overcomes these shortcomings.
I'll front-page your review over the weekend.

Although it makes sense that Glofiish M700 shall be a Windows Mobile 6 device, the E-TEN press release and M700 detailes indicate that the device is Windows Mobile 5 device.
Did I miss something? Please advise.

I'm not sure I understand your first statement. Why would it make sense for the M700 to be powered by Windows Mobile 6?
The M700 was released a few months ago as a Windows Mobile 5.0 device and it has always remained that way.

It may be little of topic but news comming from Apple frontline in this war for smartphone consumers are very agressive. So if IPhone will be able to win hearts and $$$ of buyers, HTC won't be able to get away with underpowered cheaply designed phones, wich seems to be a new trend with this company, and E-Ten looks like moving in a right direction. Thank you, Darius Wey
I was surprised whether the device is Windows Mobile 5 or 6, 2.75G (EDGE) or 3G (HSDPA/WCDMA).
Does it means the M700 shall be upgradable?

The M700 runs Windows Mobile 5 and is EDGE-compatible. The upcoming device (model number still unknown) runs Windows Mobile 6 and is HSDPA/W-CDMA-compatible. The two devices aren't related in the sense of what components can and can't be upgraded. They're standalone units.

Hardware-wise, no. Software-wise, maybe. It's been rumoured that the M700 will receive an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.
