More 2007 HTC Devices
PdaDB.net has some information on six new upcoming HTC devices, including three smartphones. Of interest to us are the Kaiser (TyTN replacement), Elf and Gene 100. Specs are pretty much as you would expect (64MB RAM, TI OMAP 200MHz except for the Kaiser), and the Gene 100 is oddly enough WM5. Check out full details below (bearing in mind PdaDB.net isn't always the most accurate source):
HTC 4550 (aka HTC Kaiser) HTC3450 (aka HTC Elf) Dopod D600 (aka HTC Gene 100)
Tentative release dates are June 2007 for the Kaiser and Elf, and March 2007 for the Gene 100. Seems to me that HTC is really following a Nokia-type strategy - lots of models at different price-points aimed at different markets and demographics. Anybody else have thoughts on this?

Yawn.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but i-mate's new stuff is much better than HTC's.

As a former TyTN owner I'm looking forward to the Kaiser hopefully it has a better slider assembly than the TyTN.

According to the page and also what was expected from TyTN sucessor, the Kaiser has 400MHz Samsung and 256MB Flash, wich is nice combined with all the wireless standards and additional GPS.
But compared to the Ultimate series and new Toshiba the lack of VGA really bothers me.
Also, I expect that Love and Elf will be dirt cheap, considering they use 200MHz OMAP in 2007 device...

I like the Kaiser, but I don't see enough of an advantage to upgrade to it from my Tytn, sure the gps, wm6, smaller, lighter, better battery, and more rom (plus the keyboard on the right side, not left. not a big deal I just like it slightly better that way) but the overall appearance so far looks ugly to me. I think I'll just keep my device till something a little more appealing comes along, like the ultimate series.

The sad thing is that, new "Smartphones" are much more interesting than the new "Phone Editions". All three new S series devices have 400MHz Samsung CPU, GPS and full wireless, while only Kaiser from P series devices have above specs and the other two lack GPS, 3G and powerfull CPU.
I just hope HTC had some emergency meetings discussing and preparing much more compeling lineup for second half of the year, because with all the new and powerfull devices coming from Nokia, Apple, Toshiba and iMate their lineup looks quite pathetic...

HTC's Professional (PPC) phones are just minor evolutionary changes. Add another feature set, slim it down, incremental upgrades in other areas, but mostly, it's the same thing over and over. How about some innovation? How about a "candybar" form like the Dash with WM6 Professional? A 2.5" QVGA screen wouldn't be so bad. But now with the Ultimate line by iMate coming out, I think it's about time we started seeing VGA screen devices. And higher res for the higher end PPCs. The slide form factor is neat at first, but the annoyance of waiting for it to switch orientation coupled with the necessity of using two hands to type (but mostly the former) turns me off to this particular form factor.

You're definitely right about that. The new HTC Wings is looking very nice indeed :!: This also brings up the question of when will PPC Phone Editions get both a slide-out QWERTY keyboard AND a T9 keypad. I've been looking for a device just like the Wings and the Sharp W-ZERO3[es] for a long time. Heck, if the W-ZERO3[es] could work with standard GSM/UMTS I'd be the first to get that because it's a PPC PE with all the sleekness of a candy-bar design.

I think the HTC S730 is a smaller and more compact one with every available option as the p4550 one. The 2 bad things about the wings is the low battery at 1050 mAH and no 3G!!
Just can't seem to bring a device that is complete, there is always something lacking or under performing.
here is the comparison between the 2:
