"The FCC today also revealed a new Pocket PC Phone from HTC. Aside from the usual navigation keys, the GENE 100 only features a touch screen for input - there is no slide out keyboard or a numeric keypad. It is a small candybar style phone with quad-band GSM/GPRS (possibly EDGE), Bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera and full size SD slot. HTC has produced a number of similar devices, but they have only been offered by European and Asian carriers. It is likely the GENE will not be seen in American stores either."



The FCC has a great way of letting the cat out of the proverbial bag on devices in the making. :mrgreen: However, since the GENE 100 (search link from Phonescoop) appears to be similar to other HTC Pocket PC Phone devices for the European and Asian markets, I'm not sure there's much to celebrate at this unveiling. Anyone see a hidden jewel here?

It seems to not have WiFi... More over, I dislike HTC's usage of the USB port for headphones and the fact that they removed IrDA from all their models. Lastly, the actual buttons are not in the middle of the body between the edge and the screen, but more towards the bottom edge. This makes it really difficult to operate it with one hand, because it can slip down and fall.

The Gene is the HTC P3400 so not a 'new' device as such.

looks like ass... or something that barney laid after a hard night at the curry house - take your pick.

This one's going to be a royal flop.
