Default Engadget's Pics of the Verizon XV6800

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/09/...0-in-the-flesh/

"Hold on, Apache owners, your knight in shining armor is just around the corner! At least we think it is, now that we've seen some shots of a Verizon-branded XV6800 doing its thing in the wild. It may not look much different than the XV6700 it replaces, but we figure that if the EV-DO Rev. A doesn't tempt you -- or the promise of a Rev. A upgrade at some point, at least -- the 2 megapixel camera and 256MB of Flash just might."

I talked about the XV6800 in December, and Engadget now has some more pics of the unit. Based on the pictures and the previous post, though, it looks like this unit has WM5 AKU3. While that was great a few weeks ago, now that WM6 has been announced I'd be kind of lukewarm about investing in a new unit, complete with Verizon contract, for an OS that's about to be superceded. If you're curious, there's more pictures at the link above.

I am looking forward to Sprints release of this. EvDO Rev A is live here in parts of Jersey and of course NY. Plus that extra rom space is very very helpfull, reminds me of the days of my 6600.

Something that might remind you more of the 6600 is the fact that it will require an upgrade in order to use rev a speed and features. It has the rev a chipset but will be released without rev a support, pending an up date. When that update will come is anyone's guess. Hopefully it will come though, and hopefully it will include crossbow.

So far that's what Verizon is saying but I'm hoping that because Sprint already has EvDO Rev A up and running that their 6800 ships complete. That 6600 fiasco was a nightmare. I actually had a 6600 running EvDO on Sprint's network but then I moved to the 6700. Keeping my fingers crossed that they learned from their last blunder.

Well it wasnt really a blunder though. They didnt want 6600 users to have EV. When 6600 users hacked to get ev working, sprint actually locked out all the 6600 users from using it. Still, I dont think they will do this to the 6800 with rev A already running. That is a good point.
