MobileTechReview Looks at the Palm Treo 750
"[T]he Treo 750 packs more change and improvement than meets the eye. Having used and reviewed the first Windows Mobile Treo, the 700w, released a year ago by Verizon at CES 2006, then the somewhat improved Sprint version (the Treo 700wx) which added more RAM, the 750 definitely is the most refined and powerful Windows Mobile Treo to date."
I have used the great reviews at MobileTechReview several times in making purchasing decisions. It sounds like this Treo is a winner with improvements like UMTS 3G (with a pending upgrade to HSDPA this quarter), more memory and a sleeker look. Anyone considering upgrading to the 750?

As I said in my review over at Gear Diary, this is a fantastic phone, the best Pocket PC Phone I have ever used.

I am using an 8525 now. I went to look at the 750 when in came in at the local store and frankly I did not like it as much. The screen is not nearly as sharp and vibrant as the 8525 - reminds me of my old Pocket PCs - and the keyboard was a bit cramped. Plus the lack of WiFi was a turn off. Voice Command 1.6 works great so I don't really need dialing on the front of the phone. They are similar in size - of course the 8525 is a bit thicker but the size difference is not a wow, this is much bigger. I have really grown to like the 8525. Just my humble opinion.

Does anyone know how fast data speeds can be when T-Mobile upgrades their networks and with the 750V? How fast should HSDPA go?

I upgraded from a tweaked-out KJAM. The 750 is quite simply the best melding of phone and pocket pc there is, bar none. There are some compromises to be sure, but for form and function the Treo is hard to beat.

After the hype, then realities of the iPhone (no user-creatable content) I am serously contemplating this phone. I previously switched away from the Windows Mobile campe when I bought a Treo 650. I actually love the simplistic interface, however the stagnant nature of the PalmOS is really starting to stink badly!! The lack of Wifi drivers absolutely kills it.
That brings me to the only criteria that would determine whether I would get one of these however: Can I use Skype on it using a microSD WIFI card?? Anyone have any success to report in that department?

If you wait about a week or so I will have a review of the Spectec miniSD wifi on my Treo 750v at Gear Diary, and I will be sure to test Skype

Unfortunately, T-Mobile bought spectrum on a different band: 1700MHz, and there's no phone supporting that band for UMTS or HSDPA at the moment, not even the Treo 750v. T-Mo will have to order phones with their bands from manufacturers when they roll out 3G in the US.
