Default SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Released to Web

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editio...ct/default.mspx

"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is the next version of SQL Server Mobile. SQL Server Compact extends the SQL Server Mobile technology by offering a low maintenance, compact embedded database for single-user client applications for all Windows platforms including tablet PCs, pocket PCs, smart phones and desktops. Just as with SQL Server Mobile, SQL Server Compact is a free, easy-to-use, lightweight, and embeddable version of SQL Server 2005 for developing desktop and mobile applications."

Need to explore the wonderful world of mobile databases? SQL Server Mobile is available, and it sounds like it's certainly powerful enough to handle your development needs!

It sure would be nice if this worked.

I've been trying to get this stuff since I saw the Channel 9 video on how to use it (probably recorded using beta versions).

After installing the VS upgrade, the tools, the SDK, and the runtime engine; I still can't get anywhere with it. For example, the "Choose Data Source" dialog is supposed to have the CE file as an option, but it doesn't show up.

And when did MS stop allowing you to select/copy the text in a MessageBox? That's really frustrating, especially when an error message is so damn long.
