Default i-mate PDAL and JAQ3 Heading to the US

http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=3035

"In addition to the PDAL, i-mate also announced that it will be selling the new JAQ3 QWERTY keyboard equipped Windows Mobile Pocket PC phone in the US, and with the same high-end features as the PDAL, it could be the answer for those that need a well-featured device with a keyboard."

Both the PDAL and JAQ3, while sporting different appearances, are essentially the same specs-wise. They're both quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE-capable, and have TI OMAP 850 200MHz CPUs, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Windows Mobile 5.0. MobileBurn is reporting that both devices will be made available in local US retailers and carriers by the end of January. Anyone here remotely interested in either of the two?

I am really not liking this move to smaller and smaller screens. I've not seen a converged device I want to use out of this latest crop. I'm happy sticking to my Acer n311 and a separate phone for another year.

After all this iPhone buzz and the talk on these boards about "niche" versus "consumer" markets, I'm wondering if those of us who actually want usable pocket computers for working on are a small minority.

I am interested in a phone with the same form factor as the JAQ3. But this one won't do it for me. No 3G support, limited processor and surprise -- 128 MB ROM/64 MB RAM. Funny, on a week when Apple announces a phone with 8 GB of internal storage, WM drags out YET another 128/64 configured device.

Hmmm, I wonder why the WM announcements don't generate buzz, and why people think the iPhone might just be a hit. It seems to me that WM Phone Edition will eventually be killed by the same lack of innovation that is killing Palm, and has seriously wounded the market for WM non-PE devices.

So what's new? I've seen articles about new powerful processors from Marvel, T-Mobile buys licenses to build 3G network all over USA, new ultra-sharp screens, memory chips, GPS chips, WM 6.0 and so on. And all that manufacturers want to put out, are devices that may be, could be something revolutionary 2-3 years ago. They keep comming up with devices using OMAP 200MHZ processors, I remember have one T-Mobile IPAQ 6315 2-4 years ago. I wonder, how much does it cost them compare to newer Intel 520, or samsung's processor, and yet, they charge you a premium price for these devices. I guess, buttom line means more than to be on the top of technology, ahead of competition. And keep ignoring users wishes for more powerful devices, will finally turn users heads towards new, more interesting, devices such as, let's say, I-Phone (just an example). And when market share of WM devices will fall., because users will get bored and dissapointed with lousy devices. They will be the first to say that Microsoft sucks, WM outlived itself and it's time to move on to new platforms. This is sad, very sad

Not that you'd need it on a device which already has a thumboard, but I would love to see TenGO Thumb on this. It would take up the whole screen so that you couldn't even see the document that you are typing in.
