Default Gear Diary Reviews the Treo 750v

http://www.geardiary.com/?p=1846

"Overall I am very happy with the Treo 750v. It would be nice if it was thinner, but it is still quite a reasonable size, and its contoured shape feels great in the hand. Its currently only available from Vodafone in Europe and a few other places, so if you want one now you will have to either wait for it to become available with your local carrier or import a Vodafone unit and have it unlocked. If you do, I think you will agree it's worth the trouble."

Mitchell at Gear Diary (better known as MitchellO around these parts) is just one of many happy Treo 750v users in and around the Asia-Pacific and Europe. You can check out his review here. Do any of you have the new Windows Mobile-based Treo? If so, what do you think of it?

I, also, live in Australia. I purchased a Treo 750V through eBay about 2 months ago and am very happy with it. The Palm enhancements to WM5 are excellent. I recently installed the HSDPA hack and have found that it works great. I switched carriers from Vodafone to Telstra (NextG) and have no troubles achieving close to rated speeds on their HSDPA network.

Yeah I am looking forward to Three activating their HSDPA network early this year. Web browsing on my phone will get that much nicer

Out of curiousity, what did you pay for your 750v (in AUD)? I got mine for $830 (would be cheaper now with the better exchange rates) including shipping from the UK with insurrance, and unlocking at imei-check (added AU$50 to the price).

:shocked!: WOW! $1000 for a phone. I really had no idea that the Treo was so expensive. I was standing around the other day with a bunch of friends when one of them dropped his Treo. The room went quite while he picked it up and put the battery back in. A sigh of relief from all when it turned back on. If it was mine the guys would have had to pick both me and the Treo up

I guess that's why I still don't have one - a little too pricey. I would imagine that the price is up in the stratosphere because of the phone carriers. If you take a look at any phone (smart or stupid) they're all pricey. And looking at the state of technology today they should all be no more than 1/2 the price of what they're selling for.

Sorry for getting off topic, but....

Yeah I do realize that but I also know that even in American $'s it's expensive. I will say this though that no matter what the cost it the device is needed then the cost is incidental. I think that the main issue that bothers me is that the cost of these phones (smart or stupid) are artificially inflated by the phone carriers and could be cut in half. That was the off topic part.

It just struck me while reading the thread that people were spending $800 and up for a phone. I should know better though since my laptop cost $2700 (before tax and maint) where so many people are buying laptops in the $500-800 range. But I live with it and it pays my bills so cost is really relative. I guess the post caught me by surprise.
