Default Earthquake Brings Down International Internet Links

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,175...3119TX1K0000594

"Telecommunications around Asia were severely disrupted on Wednesday after earthquakes off Taiwan damaged undersea cables, slowing Internet services and hindering financial transactions, particularly in the currency market."

Oh man, this is a bummer. Apart from the damage in Taiwan, the quake disrupted the main telecommunications links between Asia and the US, severely affecting phone and data capacity. Some telecoms companies have reported as much as half their capability had been temporarily lost, and the damage could take a few weeks to repair. At a personal level, my Internet access has slowed to a crawl when accessing US sites, and in some cases I have no access at all. Anybody else feeling the pinch?

I'm having the same problem. I live in the U.S. My friends who are using Comcast, which is now become Time Warner Cable, facing the very slow connection to Asian websites. However, those who are using SBC Global (or AT&T) don't have any problem at all.

I haven't had any problems here in the states, and I'm with TimeWarner Roadrunner service. My sister in Penang, Malaysia, however is complaining about extreme slow access to Yahoo. Thanks for posting that article. I sent the link to her.
