Samsung's SGH-i718 for China: That's Some Styling
"At the current ITU Telecom World 2006 in Hong Kong Samsung Electronics has unveiled its new smartphone powered by Windows OS - the SGH-i718 for the Chinese market. The device has been recently approved by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC)."
So reads Mobile-Review's translation of the above-linked el Movil article. It's a real shame we probably won't see this elsewhere, too -- while the device has fairly average screen and memory specifications, the styling of the unit looks fantastic, and the unit is just .53" thick and has an autofocusing camera. Is it me, or are most Pocket PCs today drab-looking?

It looks like it has taken a bit of styling from the BlackJack, or perhaps it is the other way around.

styling drab
Agreed. While i don't really want a bright orange PDA, something a little more elegant than the current run of the mill would be nice. Too bad Apple isn't interested in building a PDA...

Average specifications? Excuse me, but at 13,5mm depth it is the thinnest Pocket PC Phone worldwide. It also includes an autofocus camera, which isnt exactly standard on Pocket PCs either.

I wouldn't call my Treo 750v drab looking. I think it is a great looking device. Not only that but it feels great in the hand too, and is excellent for one handed use. No need to balance the phone on the ends of my fingers to get to the dpad and softkeys.

The more Samsung models I see and get my hands on, the more I'm convinced they're the new Jornada.
There's something about those Jornadas that always felt right: Good grip, the right amount of heft, ergonomics and usability engineered just right. Samsung is on a roll if you ask me. Just add a built-in flip lid and I'll be even more of a Samsung PDA/PPC fan than I already am...

I was going to say the design reminded me of my old Jornada 548. Even the bump on the back, but it's so much smaller!!! Does it have a jog dial on the other side?
