MobileAMA Releases V-Code (Video Code) for Fast 2D Barcode Downloading
"MobileAMA, an Applied Media Analysis company, announces the launch of V-Code (Video Code), a product that allows data transfer to camera phones through a dynamic visual code. MobileAMAs patent pending technology allows mobile content providers to encode data and present it visually. Users can now download more content quickly and reliably without cables, networks or data fees, by simply pointing the camera at a V-Code. V-Codes allow users to download large files presented visually on any TV, monitor, flat panel device, LCD, CRT, or even movie screen."
When I first saw the video, I was reminded of the old Timex Datalink watch sync feature. According to Andy Bucholz, Director of Business Development, MobileAMA essentially loops a video of a 2D barcode, packing in more data. Although most Pocket PC Phone users connect to a PC at some point, would this be a useful alternative in some circumstances if you had a built-in camera? Since V-Code is aimed at content providers, what kind of content would you like offered in this way?

I'll believe it when i see it...
I've been trying to set up a 2D barcode reader on a couple of different phones (HTC) and have been having a helluva time. It seems as through they use completely different drivers.
I'd love to see someone get this working. They've been using QRCode in Asia for years as a way to give people added information. Imagine pointing your phone at a movie poster and it opens a browser to show times in your area. Or at a storefront sign and having a contact with store hours and phone number entered into your PIM with no typing.
Has anyone actually used their software?

The announcement was made public today, so I imagine any users have been beta testing. Sounds like youve got some good experience in this field, Dave. Why not contact them and give us an update?

I find myself looking at 2D barcodes every now and then, as a possible way to deliver digital text (like an e-book, of course!). That could be an easy way to sell digital content on-the-spot without having to exchange hardware (discs, memory cards, etc) or connecting to foreign hardware (and risking viruses).

Where do you think this "on-the-spot" would be? Are you thinking a website, an internet cafe, traditional bookstore, or something else?
