Runcom Developing Mobile WiMAX PnP Solution for Windows Mobile
"Runcom Technologies, Ltd disclosed today at the Telecom Israel 2006 conference that they have recently signed a collaboration agreement with Microsoft to develop Windows Mobile compatible drivers for the Runcom solution, with the goal of making Mobile WiMAX a mass market technology with "Plug and Play" capabilities. Runcom solution, based on their WiMAX chipset, will allow users of mobile devices running the Pocket PC platform of Windows Mobile 5.0 to connect to Mobile WiMAX networks simply by inserting Mobile WiMAX CF or USB card without the need to install or download any drivers."
For those of you following the progression of WiMax / WiBro technologies, you may delight to hear that the needs of our current Pocket PC contingency are being planned for with regards to the next generation of wireless data communications. HP iPAQ hx2X90 series and Dell Axim x51 series, thats 5 models :?
Or could this lead to the return of CF to the PPC??? 8O

It seems obvious that larger devices are out of favour with manufacturers, which may or may not reflect consumer demand - I doubt that most consumers are adequately informed as to CF slot functionality to make such a decision. But the big slot is largely gone, so it's gone... deal with it. But this announcement speaks also of USB. It'd be a fine thing, in my opinion, to see more devices with USB host functions. I enjoy this aspect of my Toshiba e800 very much, and would consider getting a USB WiMax dongle for it.

Nice, the design reminds me of an old no-name Bluetooth card, probably still have it somewhere ! CF works for me, still got my X5, X50 and E800 ;-)
WiMax is really a bit mystery at this point, range, speed, deployments, etc...sounds too good to be true. We shall see.
