Pictures of the E-TEN M700

So, based on some of the live shots at eten-users.net, we think it's a pretty safe bet that the E-TEN M700 is coming. Some say it includes 3G connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an FM radio, a camera with flash, a QWERTY keyboard, and Windows Mobile 5.0, but take some of that with a grain of salt. If true, though, would that rock your world?

I am very underwhelmed with ETEN's ability to support its customers. It has been completely focused on cranking out new devices and paying no heed to the poor folks who were kind enough to buy them along the way...
Until ETEN starts to change its ways (there isn't even a "contact support" option on their website), I'd find it very difficult to get excited about another device from these guys...

I once thought that the sliding keyboard design was the best way to provide QWERTY goodness into a device and also allow it to be a reasonably small phone. However, after holding the T-Mobile Dash in my hands, I'm now convinced that an always exposed keyboard can be part of a sleek and slim design. I now believe that the Dash form factor is the future of Pocket PC phones/Smart phones with an integrated keyboard.

Shame. If that's true, then there will never be a market for decent screen sizes ...

True, it is a shame. I just don't think that consumers want to carry a big device. How many people have you seen carrying one of the Archos video players? Now compare that to the number you've seen with a Motorola Q.
Until manufacturers come up with a folding screen or some sort of holographic display that provides a larger screen that hovers over the smaller cell phone size screen, I think we will have to deal with squinting at itty bitty displays.

Sure they don't want to carry huge devices, but I don't doubt that a device with a 3 or 4 inch screen could be produced that doesn't need an extra 3 or 4 inches of chrome and button real estate added to it inorder to make it function. We may need to wait a little longer, but I'm sure it is physically piossible.

Forget the Q: how many people have you seen carrying a Treo?
Now that I carry one, I have to say, I'd much rather carry this than a big-screen device 99% of the time. The Treo's front-mounted thumbboard makes the common cases fast, and that's the most important thing. Sure, there's the 1% of the time where I wish I had a big screen, but I can usually manage with the 240x240 display. The one thing I miss most is support for 240x320 games (some of them scale, but scaling down to 160x240 is ugly).

I think it depends upon the primary use of the device. For me the pocket pc aspect is very important but do not want to carry two devices.
The Hx4700 form factor is bit too big for a ppc phone combo. But, very convenient for reading articles (highlighting, annotating) and demonstarting animation pictures to the patients.
I am very much looking forward to 3.5" screen ppc phone combo. Siemens sx66 was the worst combo. A small screen may be very useful for a phone with some downgraded multimedia functionality. As one develops presbyopia, a 3.5" screen is better appreciated.

Back on topic...
Can't say much about E-Ten's support issues, but at least the device is moving this form factor in the right direction -- The M700 is 10g lighter, 3mm thinner than the Hermes... competition is wonderful.
PS: not including the antannae, the Treo 650 is actuall fatter, taller, and wider than the Hermes... the 750 has the same dims and is 22g lighter... full-size keyboard, full size screen, triband UMTS = 22g...
Treo650 113x59x23 178g
HERMES 112x58x22mm 175g
M700 111x59x19mm 165g
Treo750 111x58x22mm 153g
Asus MARSII 115x59,23mm 150g
