Asus A639 GPS PDA Reviewed
"What is the most striking feature of this PDA? The GPS antenna? The connectivity (that is both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth)? The ROM, which is an incredible 1 Gbyte? Let's go and try it, we'll get some wonderful surprises!"

Solopalmari have done their usual comprehensive review, this time on Asus' A639 GPS device, with 1GB ROM and SirfStar III. The good stuff: SDIO slot, IrDA, 802.11g, BT 2.0, flip-out antenna for the GPS receiver, a whole bunch of included accessories and an absolutely blistering SPB file system benchmark results for a WM5 device. Apparently, the Asus engineers pulled a neat trick - the real ROM amount is 128MB, but an additional ROM drive is added which is considerably faster than normal. The bad: retains a proprietary connector, 2.5mm headphone socket, wifi reliability is reported to be iffy, and size and weight. I'd add that for something like this I'd rather see a VGA screen, but then that's just me . You can check out the poorish Google translation here - you might want to read through the original article (comments are available in English, watch for the bowler hats!). All in all, the A639 appears to be a worthy contender in the GPS PDA sweepstakes.

When?
I've been slobbering over this for months now. I would like to have a pda w/ integrated gps, wifi, bluetooth, win mob. 5, camera, etc. (no phone-I'd rather have my phone seperate), there haven't been many choices.
I was rather intrigued by the HP rx5915 until I read the latest review  . A shame because it's already down to $400 on ebay.
Anyone know when the Asus A639 will be available in the US?
