Default Clinton Fitch Reviews Spb Imageer 1.5

http://www.clintonfitch.com/reviews...1-5/default.asp

"As Windows Mobile devices have become faster from a processor and memory perspective, the ability to do tasks that had been regulated to the desktop are slowly creeping into these devices. Powerful word processing and spreadsheet applications are not common place as are GPS and multimedia entertainment. Add to this list photo editing. Until just a few years ago, while editing applications existed, photo editing was painfully slow and the tools available were so severely limited that it made little sense to attempt. That has all changed with products like Spb Software Houses Spb Imageer. The latest version of the application (version 1.5) is powerful and feature rich. Best of all, it is very fast and simple to use straight away making it the perfect application for on-the-fly photo editing with Windows Mobile devices. Spb Imageer also can perform a slide show of images, excellent for showing friends or family photos quickly."

There are quite a few mobile imaging applications out there. Spb Imageer is one of them. If you're interested in learning more about it, check out Clinton Fitch's review of the most recent version, v1.5.

I have used Resco Photo viewer for many many years. I have thought of moving to Spb Imageer on more than one occasion. But there are a few things i am unsure about.

The "auto run" feature when you insert a storage card.. This means some part of Imageer must run all the time. I don't think i like this idea. Can it be disabled?

Can Imageer take screen captures on my Pocket PC? I assume not as I see no mention of it anywhere. This is actually the main reason i have Photo Viewer installed. I do most of my picture viewing with the default Photos & Video app. For displaying it works perfectly.

I also see no mention of what formats Imageer will display. Resco Photo Viewer will display MPEG I, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, CFX, PSD, PCX, GIF, RAB, RAW, PGM, PPM, and Powerpoint converted by its activesync filter.
The biggest things for me are (besides GIF, JPG, and PGN) are PSD and TIFF. Those are formats that i sometimes get as mail attachments and it is nice to be able to open a photo shop image or a TIFF on my PPC.

From what I can tell Imageer has much better image editing capabilities than Photo Viewer. Resco only recently added brightnest and contrast along with crop and resize. Imageer clearly has Photo Viewer beat in this category.

I am sure it is just as wonderful as the rest of the apps running on my Spb possessed device but i am not sure if it is worth upgrading from Resco Photo Viewer since I already own that.

Yes, Resco Photo Viewer supports far more formats than SPB Imageer. Resco Photo viewer also supports animated gif

Yes, Imageer has better image editing capabilites. But, remember, those are only the basic ones. If you serious about photo editing on-the-go, get pocket artist

I actually wasn't aware that resco had any kind of auto run feature. To what are you refering?

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not too sure that Resco Photo Viewer is the culprit; all that happens is that the device turns on - no applications are actually launched. But anytime I insert (or remove) an SD card, the device turns on. I've only ever noticed it when I've had Resco Photo Viewer installed in ROM on the device, so I assumed that it is the culprit.

I didn't think there was a pocket pc that didn't do that. Every device I have ever owned turned on when I inserted or removed a storage card. actually my WIN CE 1.0 and 2.11 devices stayed off when I pulled out the PCMCIA/CF cards but I know all my SD based devices turn on.

I am pretty sure that is just how the hardware/OS function.

Really? I don't recall my iPaq 5550 doing that unless I had Spb Imageer (pre-v1.5) installed on it. But then, that may just be false memories taking over again.

hehe tell me about it. I sat there for 15 minutes trying to remember how far back my devices did this. I asked my wife if our original 3600 ipaqs did this when we took the CF card out.. She seemed to think so but i really can't remember.

I know my ipaq 3800 did. The first ipaq with an SD slot. But so many devices over soo many years... It all kinda runs together.

I do hope he meant "relegated." I'd hate to think that big government has found yet another way to control our lives.
