Default Amazon Cell Phone Upgrades Available for Existing Cingular Customers

For years, savvy cell phone shoppers in the US have known that Amazon offers aggressive discounts on many high-end phones, including Smartphones and Pocket PC Phones, but only with activation. For example, Amazon is currently listing the Cingular 8125 for $99 after rebates -- that's $150 less than what Cingular lists with a 2-year service contract. [Affiliate link] Of course, this assumes you're good about rebates and don't want one of the newer phones (either the iPAQ 6920, or the rumored 8525/Hermes or Palm's 750).

What's new, though -- and I don't know how new, but a PPCT reader recently spotted a post on techdeals.net and wrote in about it -- is that you can now upgrade existing Cingular service through Amazon and get the same deal!

Presumably, this means you'd be renewing your contract, but nevertheless this is a pretty nice opportunity if you're happy with Cingular and are looking to upgrade your setup. You'll want to read the fine print, and take care if you have an unusual account (family plans, no-longer-available special deals, etc.), but it's certainly another tool to use in your shopping arsenal. (Alas, it doesn't look like it's supported for other carriers yet. :|)

If you click on that "Am I elligible" hyperlink you will see that you have to have to be in your 10th and onwards on a 12 month plan, your 22nd month or higher in a 24 month plan, or in a month to month plan, in good standing, never late, in order to qualify. This is nice because the deals are usually better than what Cingular offers but one needs to be at the very tail end of their contract to take advantage of these awesome deals.

..just like when you walk into the store.

Frankly, when I got my 8125 at the Cingular store, it was cheaper for me to add a line with a 1 year contract than it was to buy the phone outright. Go figure...

In any case, I'll be shopping at amazon when I upgrade my phone (sometime in June).

But my friend I wasn't that lucky with my 8125. I purchased that at the pick season, when the demand of 8125 was very high. I tried to find that in many Cingular store, but failed to find that. because here they don't keep that kind of high tech cell phone. Finally without option I purchased it from Amazon.com . and this is the story of me and my 8125

I am also a hardcore fan of Cingular 8125 and there are several reasons behind it. One glance at the Cingular 8125, and you pretty much know it means business. It's styled in no-nonsense gray and silver, and from the front, it looks like any old PDA, measuring 4.3 inches high and 2.3 inches wide. Unfortunately, the smart phone is on the thicker and heavier side (1 inch; 5.2 ounces), so it's definitely not the most travel-friendly device we've seen; on the bright side, though, Cingular includes a belt holster it supports polyphonic ringtones 0X 0X
