This doesn't seem different than a more advanced syncing application/server. However, I do prefer to have a standard way across operting systems that support the transsend profile where applications can "export data to transsend" rather than having a single sync app (e.g. iSync, ActiveSync) using their proprietary closed formats and such. The problem is though that third party applications must update themselves to support transsend (e.g. OE, Thunderbird), while in the sync-application way only the sync app needs to be updated. From one side you gain cross-platformness and access to a variety of data, on the other side it can take years before apps decide to support this profile even if the host OS supports the profile.
