Default HTC Herald: Wizard Successor?

http://www.solopalmari.com/content/view/2343/2/

SoloPalmari's got pics of yet another new HTC device, dubbed the Herald. It's smaller than the HTC Hermes -- incrementally improving over the Wizard in size and features, with a 200MHz OMAP CPU, 64MB RAM/128MB ROM, 2.8" QVGA display, and a 2 megapixel camera.

Arne from the::unwired has discovered, however, that the unit does not have 3G capabilities, instead settling for GSM/GPRS/EDGE. I'm guessing this will be a cheaper and smaller alternative to the Hermes for folks who want the convergence first and don't need the 3G capabilities. Alas, no release details yet.

How the hell is that supposed to be a "incremental improvement" over the Wizard? Because it's maybe a little thinner and has a terrible 2 megapixel camera instead of a terrible 1.3 megapixel camera?

Thinner would be a huge improvement! My Qtek 9100 does everything I wand & need. 0.5cm thinner and it would be the perfect machine for me!

No 3G = No Interest

At least for me anyway. My operator is 3G-only, so a non-3G handset it not an option. I am waiting for the Hermes!!!

Dear Imate/Dopod/HTC, before you shoot yourself in the foot. CHANGE THESE TWO THINGS FIRST.

1. NOBODY likes the 200mhz TI. It's like the fat kid at the dance, you know the one who sits by himself because nobody loves him? Yes. Nobody loves the TI. Put something faster in...hell, if it has to be a TI, get them to pump out something new. Its 2006, hell almost 2007. Get with the bloody program TI.

2. Do something, ANYTHING about the camera. The 2MP camera is a complete letdown. How can I insult it more? Think of any expletive and put it down for the pure FRUSTRATION of using that godawful camera. Virtually every picture that is not taken using some kind of support/tripod WILL end up blurry. And on the off chance you do get to take a picture, heaven forbid; the camera is "unable to capture. Not enough memory" Please give me an enema to flush all the crap out of my system.

Other manufacturers have got the hang of it. Look at the K800i. It's a 3.2MP Xenon Flashing /IR autofocusing dream.

Admittedly, Sony have the digital imaging know-how to make this happen. But now is the time to STOP feeling sorry for yourself and do something about it. Steal some features, not like sony has a damn patent on autofocus does it?

Yeah the TI processor really should be buried. Its not that good, and doesn't save enough power to warrant the poor performance offered.
