CINGULAR Branded treo 750" So reads a post on TreoCentral. Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly), the image has since been taken down, so take it for what you will. However, I wouldn't be very surprised if Cingular were to offer the 750 -- I've been hearing rumors about it for a while, and I'm sure Cingular would like to get their hands on the enterprise Treo market that Sprint and Verizon are currently capitalizing on. (A pic of the Treo 680, rumored to be the "cheap PalmOS Treo", was also sighted.)

bnycastro Sage Join Date: Jun 2005 Posts: 621		I also saw this on BH... why would the palm device [if it's true the 680] be cheaper than the WM5 version [the 750]? doesn't palm make palm treos with 320x320 and wmtreos with 240x240...? They could price it the same or higher than wm5 right? or is this a marketing tactic to sway more users to get the palm version, also will the palm version also have nvfs like wm5? maybe position it 50$ cheaper or something??? anyway if cingular is getting a GSM [or even 3G] version I sure hope palm will start selling these unbranded! __________________ bnycastro: blog\|twitter\|plurk

Sure, but there's several possibilities:

1. The licensing fee for WM is higher than PalmOS.

2. The 750 has features (3G?) that the 680 doesn't.

3. Cingular/Microsoft/Palm are positioning the 750, with Windows Mobile, as an enterprise device, whereas Palm sees the 680 as a consumer device.

Would I prefer a cheaper WM Palm? Of course. However, that may take some time to happen. Like it or not, PalmOS still has significant inroads in the consumer community.
