PDAgold.com Reviews the E-TEN G500

PDAgold.com has just published a lengthy review of the E-TEN G500. A couple of missing features keep this from being an "everything and the kitchen sink" device, but no company ever strikes gold, do they? I am the not-so-proud owner of a Torq P120 and I couldn't disagree with that last statement any more. Eten's devices look good on paper, but they use low-ball components (earpieces, mics, etc.), have awful reliability, and Eten's support is abysmal. One stop by www.eten-users.net and a quick perusal of the M600/P120 forums will reveal just how much of a pain Eten's devices really are. Mine has been a real pain in the butt.
I had such high hopes for my P120. It was my first converged device. Now I'm searching for something which I can count on. To some people these things are more toys than tools. Odd hickups are just an excuse to dig around in the registry for a work-around. I'm all for finding device optimizations, but when my device hickups in the middle of a work day, or the person I'm calling can't make out what I'm saying for all the echo, or I can't hear a thing through the earpiece, or the digitizer goes berzerk, or the backup battery refuses to hold a charge, or the device refuses to properly make or keep a headset pairing, my productivity pays the price.

You know, the G600 was on the shortlist when I was shopping for a new phone (chose the MDA vario), and I just could never get around the blue lines/lights.
I didn't like Tron when it came out, and not again when it was revived for nostalgia's sake. And I still don't like it. :soapbox:
