Read Email Attachments With Picsel Proviewer
"Picsel Technologies, a dynamic mobile platform provider that brings mobile content to life, today announced it is making Picsel's Proviewer application available direct to consumers. So far, available to ODMs only (for instance the Motorola MPx220 and the Samsung SGH-i300 Windows Mobile Smartphones were equipped with the Picsel Proviewer), the launch follows substantial prosumer demand for direct access to the application."
Picsel's Proviewer is a Clearvue-type program which allows you to view Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Reader, and image email attachments without conversion. For a limited time, Proviewer is on offer for $14.99 from their website (a trial version is available). Picsel has only officially tested compatibility with the iPaq 2490 and 2790, but my take is that that probably means most WM5 devices should be able to run it just fine.

I have picsel viewer software on my Samsung i730 (it came with my i730) and it's great. I use it for viewing all sorts of document types!

I don't know, because I'm not familiar with ClearVue.

what's the pdf viewer like? for my purposes a decent pdf viewer and maybe commentator would be so good.
ansyr primer - excellent except a little slow and now out of business.
adobe - you would think.
orneta - it doesn't show the native file!
clearvue - not great quality display.
there's a few others, including a freeware one, but none that good.

Picsel browser (that's what it's called on my i730) does an excellent job of displaying pdf files. I don't think you can create comments with it (if that's what you meant by "commentator".)

Does Proviewer have reflow technology?
Yes, Picsel Proviewer provides reflow functionality for MSWord and Text files.
|
Looks like Picsel's Proviewer cannot reflow PDF documents per their FAQ. Can someone who has used this software comment on this. The advantage to reflowed documents is less scrolling and zooming just to be able to read the document.
Does Picsel's Proviewer work on WM2003/2003SE devices or just WM5 PDAs?

If you read Arne's whole artical you find

Unfortunately, the only Windows Mobile devices which are supported at the moment are a coupe of iPaq Pocket PCs. A Windows Mobile Smartphone version isn't available yet which is sad, since a Smartphone version (as mentioned above) is available already, even if it wasn't designed for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices initially.

Makes it pretty irrelevent IMHO. On my PPCs I can already read Word Excell and Powerpoint native files. On my smartphones I need that capability, and it doesn't offer that, directly to the consumer any way.
For pdf and pictures I have scads of options on the PPC, and a few on smartphones too.
This is positioned to compete with Clearvue which does support Smartphones today. It is not Repligo-like as Repligo requires all files to be converted to use their reader.
Incidentally, for those that may not know, the reflow function in adobe's reader is dependent on the pdf file being appropriately 'tagged'. Not all pdf's are. The likely-hood is high that if you get a pdf e-mailed to you, it will not be a tagged file and it won't re-flow regardless of what reader you use. When you install the mobile pdf reader to your PPC, you also install an AS based tagger, which attempts to tag a file as it is copied to your PPC using AS. The file won't be tagged if you put your flash card in a reader and copy it that way, or if you use AS to copy the file on a PC that has not been used to install the reader on a PPC (tagger wasn't loaded).

Thanks for spoting the error Sven - I've amended the post.
