Default Palm and Vodafone Announce The Treo 750v For Europe

http://euro.palm.com/europe/products/treo750v/index.html?creativeID=HmPg_BB

Palm and Vodafone have launched the new GSM based Treo 750V in Europe and the UK. This is Palm's third Windows Mobile Treo after the Verizon 700w and Sprint 700wx released here in the States.

Features include:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS radio, GSM bands: 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS bands: 850/1900/2100
60MB of memory available to the user
 300MHz Samsung processor
 miniSD card slot

The most notable omission is the lack of a WiFi radio, but that is more likely a Vodafone demand than anything else. Most carriers don't like WiFi because they don't control it. Engadget has some additional pictures, and some comments that Vodafone exclusivity for this phone only applies to Europe, so it may become available in the Americas and Asia this year. Jason Langridge has had a 750v for two months and shares his thoughts on the device.

This looks great. I'm expecting to see this one in Australia and New Zealand in the not-too-distant future. Our carriers love each and every Treo, and I see this as no exception.

No, the Palm Treo is not only for the USA. The problem is that North Americans don't have strict regulations on waste generated by electronics disposed in the environment, and therefore their products are of a "lower standard". Seriously, that's why Palm is pulling the LifeDrive series from the EU. More information here: http://www.yesmagazine.org/article.asp?ID=711 about the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in the EU).

Also, because there was an "exclusivity" agreement between Palm and Verizon Wireless when they first launched the original Windows Mobile Palm Treo.

Now, about the Treo 750v in Australia/New Zealand. I have access to one of these devices, but VFNZ made me promise not to release any information until their official launch here in New Zealand.

There's a good reason: the 750v *IS* HSDPA compatible, but not at launch. From sometime next month an updated radio stack firmware will be available that will give the Treo 750v full 3.6Mbps access. But AFAIK VFNZ doesn't want reviews to go out without the update, so that we get the "best experience". And most sites are not covering this now, because it's not there yet.

Anyway, that's the official spin.

PS. Ed, I noticed a common mistake Americans do: my feed reader showed a version with Vodaphone and another with Vodafone. Did you know Vodafone does have a stake on Verizon Wireless?

I want this!!! I can't wait for this to come out over here. I absolutely love 3G, and a Windows Mobile Treo would compliment my new 3G SIM perfectly

It seems like that: If your country's telco doesn't get the 750. Then you will have no chance to be able to get the device?

Is palm going to be selling this device direct to users or are they waiting for it to become obsolete before doing so?

I updated that. I guess not quickly enough, though.
