"ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS), a leading provider of high-performance notebook computers, today unveils the latest R2H Ultra-Mobile PC. Whether you love the UMPC concept or not, the idea continues to gain more traction with AsusTeK being the latest to officially join this market segment. Their UMPC offering comes with a 900MHz Celeron M ULV CPU, 256MB RAM (expandable to 768MB), 7" WXGA touch screen (screen resolution not specified), integrated GPS receiver, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, 20/30/40/60 GB HDD options, USB, SD card reader, and biometric scanner. Thoughts?

Wow! If I hadn't bought the Sony U70 (or whatever that Japanese OS number was) and found out that the screen is annoyingly small, I'd really go for this one. I'm still looking for a way to zero out my information on the U and reinstall the OS. I want to sell it, but won't do it with all my "stuff" on there.
That was off the subject; sorry. ops:
This little item is very tempting. 8O

900mhz Celeron? That might be acceptable with a gig of ram, but with it topping out at 768, I can't imagine using this would be an enjoyable computing experience... Unless all you do is surf the web and email...

It looks a lot nicer than the Tablet Kiosk 'Eoh' or whatever it's called. I'm surprised they are releasing it now with first generation specs though. Samsung and TK are both readying their second generation devices which have better processors. (admittedly their first gens don't have GPS though)
what's that white blob at the top ? it looks annoyingly large...

The concept is awesome. The prosect of using a computer that's only slightly more powerful than my MDA doesn't seem all that exciting...

they are available as options on some UMPCs but push the price too far to be ubiquitous yet.

And battery life counted in picoseconds.
But seriously, the form factor looks pretty good and if I could get close to the 6 hours light use (no wifi, no bluetooth) that I can with my iBook, i'd be a bit more interested.
