Default Download Maps and Location Info Wherever You Are with Earthcomber

http://www.earthcomber.com/splash/p...newversion.html

"You step off an airplane in a city youve never visitedyou drive into an unfamiliar part town. Now with on-the-go Map and Location Info, you'll never be out of touch with what's around you ever again!"

Earthcomber is a free and innovative service that leverages your GPS receiver to provide you with local points of interests based on your location at any given time. Now you can actually download maps over the air (assuming you have a wireless data connection of course) which comes in real handy if you're in a rush and don't have time to prepare for a trip beforehand. This is in addition to existing features that allow you to find local theatres/movies, shops, restaurants, ATMs, turn-by-turn directions, etc. If you're always on the go and have a GPS receiver handy, I encourage you to check this out!

This is a pretty nice idea; it provides a lot more detail and customization about local spots than those applications that focus on GPS routing. After installing Earthcomber and playing with it for awhile, I can anticipate using it a lot whenever I visit an unfamiliar city or area.

It's unfortunate that the on-device screen rendition is so poor; it's obvious this wasn't designed with VGA devices in mind. I'll still use it, but it could look a lot more crisp and clean.

I tried creating a Earthcomber account using Gmail's "plus addressing" so that if Earthcomber does decide to flood my inbox, I can easily filter them out. However, EC's website has deemed my email address as invalid.
