Default Brighthand Reports that T-Mobile Hoping to Offer 3G Before End-of-Year

http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=12375

"Although T-Mobile USA is well behind its competitors in offering third-generation wireless services to its customers, this isn't because this carrier doesn't want provide these premium services... T-Mobile doesn't have the rights to enough of the wireless spectrum... it has been testing 3G services, and believes it will be ready to deploy them as soon as it gets the spectrum. That's why the carrier hopes to begin offering high-speed cellular-wireless services before the of this year."

Lack of 3G service has been the primary weakness of T-Mobile for a the last few years, but apparently it's of no fault of T-Mobile themselves. They certainly must already see how badly they are lagging the competition in this area. For all of us T-Mobile users (including yours truly), let's keep our fingers crossed that they can get their foot in the door and give us something more appetizing than their currently limited Edge GPRS offering.

I certainly hope that I get t keep my $20 unlimited data plan. Otherwise I would have switched to Cingular and dumped my Wizard for a TyTN. I will hold out hoping for now. Plus, TMo has a great family plan that currently cannot be beat with heavy texting teens in the mix.

Honestly, I haven't had any speed complaints using my MDA on their EDGE network. Its plenty fast enough for anything my PDA is capable of doing.

Yes, for normal use (web browsing, email, etc) it seems EDGE is fast enough, but it is rather slow when I tether it as a modem to my notebook. It also would not be fast enough to handle VoIP sufficiently along with video conferencing. I am looking forward to doing both reliably.
Actually, the web browsing experience is still pathetic, but it has less to do with the speeds of EDGE and more to do with the browser. Long/big pages take forever to render. The same page on my notebook using my Wizard as a modem renders significantly faster thus the speed of the network is not the culprit, but the application is.

I wonder what devices it will deploy since no current devices will support the bands up for auction. Havent seen any info on new UMTS phones that support other bands than the current 850/190012100.

Default T-Mobile USA

As a T-Mo customer I've been disappointed by the fact they can't even provide acceptable coverage in the largest port in the United States -
Los Angeles. I have recieved 4 SMS's since Feb (after submitting 4 trouble tickets every 2 mos) saying there is going to be a "System Enhancement" while they have made NO IMPROVEMENTS to this major LA area. BTW the area is LA port/San Pedro. The whole area gets one bar on T-Mobile AT BEST while Cingular/Verizon/Sprint gets 2/3 bars. T-Mobile had better concentrate on getting the LA port or else they will continue losing LA market share.

That would be so awesome if T-Mobile could offer 3G before the end of the year. They would be ahead of Sprint by almost a year.

I'm quite happy with my T-Mobile service and it's EDGE capabilities. 3G would be great when tethering but otherwise, not have too much effect on me. But for the big picture, it's something they gotta do to remain competitive.

Either you meant to say "They would be behind of Sprint by almost a year." or you just don't understand what 3g means!

Sprint is getting ready to roll out EvDO Rev A after having Rev 0 for a year (which stomps Edge). Sprint's 4g network begins being rolled out in 2007...
