Default Dopod Launches the 838 Pro (HTC Hermes)

http://www.dopodasia.com/Dopod/Sing...DAPhone/838Pro/

"Dopod International (S) Corp. Pte Ltd, a leading PDA phone and Smartphone provider, turns its promise of delivering ultimate connectivity into reality with the launch of two 3G devices - the Dopod 838Pro and the Dopod 595. The Dopod 838Pro is the first 3G PDA phone that comes with a sliding keypad while the Dopod 595 is the first Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 3G super-slim smartphone. Incorporating a full suite of value-added applications and contents, both phones fulfill and exceed consumers' demands for a 3G lifestyle."

Dopod has just launched the sleek 838 Pro (HTC Hermes) in Asia. Available in black, the 838 Pro sports a Samsung 400MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a 2.8" QVGA TFT-LCD, two cameras, microSD support, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and Windows Mobile 5.0 (MSFP). Dopod's tagged this feature-rich device at around $890 USD.

Holding on to my O2 XDA Exec for awhile longer... and maybe wait for the 838pro's price to go down a bit more. Also I noticed that the 595 has no WiFi shucks and I was hoping to get this Smartphone to use as a standby/weekend device.

It's also crippled with tri-band GSM and single-band 3G connectivity only, but since you're in Asia, I'm sure that won't pose too much of a problem.

I tried this phone out in Taipei and did not like it for a couple of reasons. Sound quality is poor for Windows media player via headphones or speakerphone as the same goes for call quality sound on either speakerphone or headphone. The speakers did not sound good compared to my older Imate PDA II. My Imate sounded way better, the difference was quite noticable.
