Default CritterMap Software Beta Program for BackCountry Navigator v2 GPS Solution

http://www.backcountrynavigator.com...tent/view/53/1/

"BackCountry Navigator 2 is the next generation of a product for outdoor recreation on your Pocket PC. The 2.0 beta program allows you to participate in the evolution of the software... BackCountry Navigator is navigation software for outdoor recreation that runs on your Pocket PC. It displays topographic maps and aerial photography for the United States. When used with a GPS connected to your Pocket PC, it shows your location on a moving, mulitresolution map and guides you to waypoints you import, download or define."

If you've used or tried BackCountry Navigator in the past or are interested in trying it today, this may be worth your time. Some of the reported improvements over version 1 include better support for square screen devices (e.g. Treo 700W, iPaq 6515), automatic detection of GPS devices, tracking functionality, GPX import of trials, GPX export for tracks and waypoints, and more.

this is a pretty sweet app for techie backpackers like myself. my only gripe with the new version is that it doesn't load the data files from version 1... so, so-long to all those waypoints that took me 30 miles of hiking to create!!!!

I've been using this app for a while, started back when it was first released. While it does take a bit of time and organization to download your maps prior to going on your outdoor adventure, it is so very cool to have a real time ARIAL PHOTOGRAPH of your current location.

I've used it when out doing flatwater kayaking. I've come to "forks in the water" and have used this to help me know which direction to go.

I love it and recommend anyone interested to give it a try.
