Default And The Microsoft Spoke Saying: Let .NET CF Live On Storage Card!

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&DisplayLang=en

"For developers such as myself, the memory requirement of .net CF 2.0 placed upon an already limited resource (particularly on Smartphone) has always been off putting. In fact, to date I have been still developing in .net CF 1.0, purely because of this problem. Installation to Storage Card resolves this issue, and is a very welcome change!"

Oh Baby, is this ever sweet news or what? I've got a nice 2 GB Mini-SD that can now take the install of the .net CF while my device stays clear of the large file footprint. As has been said before, we can't exactly expect the Compact Framework to be small, but atleast now we have options on where to put the thing! Kudos to MS for this change!

Thanks for covering the developer side of things, Jon. Although these threads might not always get a lot of posts, keep the info coming!

Off topic: Nice post count, btw. 2006 in 2006!

Gee, I almost didn't want to post a reply less I lose my post count at 2006! I realize that there aren't a bunch of chatty developers around here, and that it's always easier to find information later if you realize you need it (i.e. "I saw that a few months ago.. but where?") if it's well documented and covered. Thanks for the feedback.

I thought this was news a few weeks back -- unless this is a newer version :?:

In any case -- tell it to install to the Storage Card, and it will put some parts in /Windows in main memory and the GAC stuff onto the card.

Default Where's my reclaimed storage space?

So, after installing this to my SD card I'm supposed to get some of my on-board storage space back? Didn't seem to. There's a bunch of "GAC" stuff on my SD card now but I can still see GAC stuff in my local Windows folder. Did I do something wrong? Am I confusing ROM stuff (the real read-only, original ROM stuff) with (NV-?)ROM stuff (the non-volatile memory of my WM5 Pocket PC phone)? What's going on?

This was one of the items in the description:

Added the option to install the global assembly
cache to the storage card.

It sounds like it still installs some of it to local storage and some of it to the storage card. It all doesn't install to stroage card.

Default ...but no reclaimed space at all?

I hear ya Dale. That's what I got from Burt's post. What's got me confused is how installing anything to the SD card didn't recover any local space. Shouldn't I get some space back?

Free memory before removing .NET CF: less than 6mb
Free memory after removing .NET CF: 10.7MB
Free memory after reinstalling .NET CF to my storage card : 9.58MB

I'm a happier camper, but I'm still thinking about doing the un-gunked hard reset / soft reset after I install the ROM update.

Nice to see that Microsoft has finally caught up to Menneisyys who announced a working method of relocating the .NET 2x to a storage card a few months ago...
