Default HTC Hermes and HP iPAQ hw6920/hw6925 Coming to Cingular

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/...ipaq-hw6920-co/

Once again, Engadget Mobile has the scoop on a couple of additional Pocket PC Phone Edition devices that are expected to be made available through Cingular within the next few months. Both the HTC Hermes and HP iPAQ hw6900 series should come as no surprise - in particular, the latter, which is confirmed by this list of specs on the HP web site (look for the hw6920/hw6925 listing). Also expected is the HTC Star Trek, our favourite Windows Mobile-based clamshell Smartphone. Cingular is certainly scoring some big points this year.

I definately hope this is true, but I would not count on the Hermes on Cingular until at least early 2007. We must remember the Wizard/8125 was avaliable from IMate and others around Fall of 2005, but took Cingular until Feb of 2006 to get it out.

Plus, the big features of the Hermes around UMTS/HSDPA/3G data support is not even avaliable in but pieces of 15 markets (not including the largest markets like NYC).

Cingular needs to get their 3G network together first. They are at least a year behind Verizon and Sprint. They had promises of having most of the network on 3G by this year, so we will see if they are able to get this done first. Its great that Cingular is working to improve coverage in B.F.E Kansas but lets the the 3G services rolling to the rest of the major markets!

I have a feeling that when cingular announces its OFFICIAL 3G NATIONAL ROLLOUT that the Hermes will be the main/key device to showcase the new network. I don't think there's a better way to appeal to Cingular 3G's core demographic of business users.

And then of course they'll have other handsets to showcase the more consumer orientated improved Cingular Video experience.

QFT. I live in one of the market's that's supposed to be high on Cingular's 3G roll-out list. But there are HUGE pockets all over the area where I can't even get a regular GPRS connection, not to mention EDGE. And I'm not talking the middle of Egypt or something; this is metro DC.
