Tips for the Non-Exchange User: Secrets of Being Notified of Incoming E-mail
"Pocket PC users, especially those using a Pocket PC Phone Edition (PPC PE) device, often ask me how they can be notified of new, incoming e-mail messages automatically. Its easier than most think and in no way complicated to set up. In this article, I elaborate on the secrets of fetching your mail periodically, without any human intervention, only alarming you when there is some new mail to report on..."
The Windows Mobile expert with the difficult-to-spell nickname, Menneisyys, has put together a comprehensive article on how to get the most out of your email setup without having to fiddle with a costly, hosted Exchange setup. It's chock full of goodies, so it's worth a look-see over at our friends at Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine.

As a heck of an easy alternative if you do not have a phone edition device...
If you can forward mail on delivery to your inbox..
Forward all your mail to your cell's sms inbox (example [email protected] if you're a Verizon customer)
Your cell will then act as your notifier...
You can then use your PPC to pop your email account, to read the full message, download attachments, and reply.
Simple, easy, 100% effective.
