HTC Announces the TyTN and MTeoR; Qtek to Use the HTC Name
"HTC, the world's leading provider of Windows Mobile devices, today launched the world's first tri-band 3G Windows Mobile Pocket PC [TyTN] and 3G smartphone [MTeoR] under the new HTC brand identity. HTC will continue to support its operator-branded products and OEM partners as a key priority. At the same time, HTC will provide its new branded products to its existing Qtek channels, distributors, enterprise and operators, who do not carry operator-branded products. Migrating the Qtek brand to the new HTC brand identity will enable HTC to provide better direct support to those customers... The first devices to be offered with HTC brand are the HTC TyTN and the HTC MTeoR. These will be available from late July."

Qtek is to officially assume the HTC name in all of its upcoming products, with the HTC TyTN (Pocket PC) and HTC MTeoR (Smartphone) (both formerly known as the HTC Hermes and HTC Breeze respectively) being the first two devices to sport the new branding. And if I may say so, those are interesting names - much like the StrTrk. Bring on the 1337 speak! It r0x0rz. ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
A press release can be found here, and the new HTC site can be found here.

Honestly, Hermes and Breeze sounds better than TyTN and MTeoR... (They are not very good names either, but still better...)
Nevertheless, neat devices and I guess Dopod will become HTC soon too.

Might HTC be getting together with Motorola? They seem to be adopting their naming style... (TyTN? RAZR? Hmmm)

Judging by the spec sheet (data sheet 2 on the product page), these Pocket PCs leave very little to desired, except for the VGA screen that is .
I'm actually impressed with the names. They borrow the slick naming that Motorola uses but still keeps the scifi/fantasy feel of their brand.

It has a 2.8 inch QVGA Screen and they're calling it TyTN? "TyNY" is more like it.

I just want a firm release date like they do with game consoles and titles. Now, it's all a waiting game.

We all know that everyone wants a 1lb device with a 5" VGA screen.
My point is that everyone expects it to have a VGA screen - of course it'd be nice, but how much extra would it cost? How much more of a toll would it have on battery life? How much bigger would the device have to be in order to fit in the standard 3.7" VGA screen?
I'm probably with the majority of consumers that want a lower priced device with better battery life that is also SMALLER (most important to me). VGA is a tradeoff that I'm willing to live without.
And the TyTN naming - well considering that this thing will be packed full of the latest features, yea, I can see it being a "TyTN"

Wow!
The TyTN appears to have every wireless known to man. Except analog.
But Ii think I can live without that.
Lets hope the price is right

I think this is a good move by HTC as long as they really are able to support the end users better. Naming is critical for selling items, I hope they know what they are doing. I do feel naming them would be better than having 1 letter + numbers all the way ala nokia or sony ericsson. It gives the devices more personality i think.
