Default Panasonic to Release 4GB SDHC Card

http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/08/...o-drop-july-25/

"Panasonic has just announced a 2.0-compliant 4GB model that appears to fall under the class 2 category of the new format's rating system (out of 2, 4, and 6), which refers to the card's minimum transfer speed in MBps. SDHC cards, which are only compatible with FAT32-compliant current-gen readers, promise capacities as high as 32GB, while offering the DRM-friendly security features that content producers love to frustrate us with."

In case there are people who are scratching their heads regarding SDHC, keep in mind that the specification of SD declares a maximum capacity of 2GB. While some companies have been able to trick out a 4GB SD card, you'll also notice that people have been having a hit-and-miss experience with various devices. For more information on SDHC, this page will offer some explanation. If you're not ready to hunker down $265 for it, you'll have at least a month and a half to save up. That is, if your device can handle it.

I'm confused about the new class speed ratings of these SDHC cards. 2MB/sec, 4MB/sec, 6MB/sec -- these seem awfully slow compared to existing SD high-speed cards with 10-20 MB/sec (or higher) read/write speeds?
