Fitaly 4 Released
The next version of Fitaly for Pocket PC has arrived. There are plenty of new features in this release, which those of you who sampled the release candidates should already know about. In Fitaly 4, you'll find visual improvements for VGA devices, powerful macro expansions (extended functionality delivered through user-customised slides), and Windows Mobile 5.0 support. You'll also get the usual bag of goodies - like side bars, letter panels, number panels, punctuation panels, accent and arrow keys, and more.
Great news for all Fitaly 3.5 users: Fitaly 4 is a free upgrade as it uses the same registration code. For everyone else, there is a special upgrade offer of $15 if you use an older version, and a special introductory offer of $25 if you're new to the SIP.
Do give this a trial run. In my opinion, it's miles ahead of the default on-screen keyboard included in Windows Mobile.

Well, as usual the upgrade experience on Windows Mobile 5 is worse than trying to remove an application from Windows 3.1.
If you have Fitaly 3.x or one of the release candidates, betas, you might give this a shot.
Go into the Fitaly options and change the default keyboard to "Keyboard."
 Soft Reset
Go to Start|Settings|System|Remove Programs and uninstall Fitaly. It may be listed as Textware Solutions Fitaly.
Now, if that worked cool. You are one of the fortunate. Soft reset again and proceed with the install of 4.0.
If, like me, the uninstall fails, before hitting soft reset do the following. Now, advanced warning here because Fitaly inserts itself during the boot, this could render your device unbootable if there is something left on your device that I don't list below because it wasn't on mine. I used Resco Explorer to help with this. Make sure you can see all hidden and system files and files in ROM. You will need a registry editor too. Resco includes one and there are freebies available. You should be able to perform the file operations, with the exception of the Find operation, with the default WM5 File Explorer as long as you can see hidden/system files.
Manually remove the 3 FITALY* folders in \windows.
Delete all fitaly* files in \windows - 7 of them I think
Remove the HKCU\Software\Textware solutions registry key
 Remove the HKR\CLSID\{95BDB641-772F-11d2-AC6B-204C4F4F5020} key
 Remove the HKLM\Software\Apps\Textware Fitaly key
 Remove the \windows\AppMgr\Textware Fitaly folder
 Remove the \windows\help\fitaly.lnk file
 Remove the \windows\startup\fitalystartup.exe file
Using Resco File Explorer, go to the root of your device and search for *fitaly* and *textw* on the entire device to make sure there are no Fitaly and Textware files.
Using a good registry tool, like Resco's Registry addin, search for fitaly and textware in the registry. Make sure you search data, keys and values.
Once done, soft reset again. This is the key. If your device boots, and it should, you should be able to upgrade.
Note: If you get a "Fitaly has been successfully installed on your device..." but the blue dots at the top of the screen do NOT fill up the progress bar entirely, then the install did not install successfully and you should go back to the top of this post and start over.
After all of that, for some reason it came up in VGA mode on my tiny K-Jam QVGA screen. Just go into optioins and tell it to dispaly "Small"
As much as a colossal hassle as this is, Fitaly is definitely worth it. 4.0 is amazing compared to 3.5. The "preview" feature when you slide north rocks. It is just too bad the application manager that Windows Mobile 5 comes with is vying for top suckiest feature, and I think it is a nose ahead of Connection Manager in this hotly contested race.

Thanks very much for the heads up on this, Ed. I'll give this a whirl this pm.
As Ed says, I'm sure it will be worth it. Fitaly is a phenomenal app for PocketPCs. I had been quite frustrated trying to use v3.5 on my K-JAM - the small stability problems were annoying just because I have become so dependent on the great features in Fitaly. This new version seems even better.
I wonder if we can persuade Jean to take another look at doing Fitaly for Tablet PCs. He had a test version a couple of years ago but dropped it. I for one would love to see it back again.

I dunno which version of fitaly I'm currently using on my WM5 handheld, and I don't care.
It works. It's wonderful. It's stable.
Can't believe the steps necessary for some to install it.... I'm not even taking a risk there.

Have you looked at the Tablet PC Forum lately:
http://fitaly.com/board/fsbetaforum/index.html
We should have a Fitaly for the Tablet PC very soon and it will look very much like the one on the Pocket PC.
Jean

PJE provides a direct link. In addition, there's a link at the bottom of the Fitaly forum post that says "Download Fitaly 4". Hard to miss it.

Hmm, I was going to check for you, but it appears the Fitaly site is down. When it's back up, I'll let you know if it appears in IE Mobile.
