Default New to Avvenu: Guaranteed Access and My Media Play

http://www.avvenu.com/

A new version of Avvenu was released today with two key features: Guaranteed Access, and My Media Play.

"Guaranteed Access is a paid premium feature that allows you to access your files, even if your computer is offline or turned off! Currently, with Avvenu's free service, you have access to your files only as long as your computer is online. But with Guaranteed Access, all of your most important content is accessible, anytime, anywhere, from any internet-connected computer or mobile device. While Guaranteed Access is a paid feature, you'll be glad to know that My Media Play is a free benefit for all Avvenu users! With My Media Play, you can access your entire music collection of MP3 and WMA music files stored on your computer - and play those tunes on any other computer or Windows Mobile 5 device. Finally, you're freed from limited play lists and synchronizing your mobile device - just access and enjoy!"

I totally agree with you sudermatt.

I just installed Avvenu software on one of my test machines and removed it within about half an hour. The main attraction for me was to try out the My Media Play feature. Boy was I disappointed. Definitely stick with Orb!

I was expecting to be able to stream music from an entire directory like I can with Orb. Unless I missed something, you have to drill down all the way to a folder until you get to the actual songs. You can play songs from that folder only and when I was streaming them they were only playing at 56kbps.

I had tried Avvenu awhile back and while nice, it just took too long to navigate through a directory when it contains a lot of folders. They still haven't changed this as you can only see 15 folders per page. And I am not about to install Google Desktop to help expediate the search. The File Explorer Add-on in Orb works great for me!

Does Orb's FileExplorer Add-on works with WM devices? The main reason I have Avvenu is ability to access files on my PCs on the go.

Yes, it does. I took a screenshot of it here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=48235

Works well.

Yeah, I am pretty disappointed also. The media play option doesn't work too well on a K-JAM using Opera and even PIE. Trying to play a unprotected mp3 resulted in various types of errors. Attempting to play a folder didn't work either (the play link wasn't even available).

Too bad. I wasn't able to get Orb to work either. It seemed like port 80 and 8080 couldn't be used regardless of what I did with my firewall preventing me from streaming any type of media.

Have you tried disabling your firewall temporarily and then trying Orb? BTW- What firewall are you using?

Also, if your router supports UPnP (which most recent routers do) make sure it is enabled.

Other quick troubleshooting tips would be to try and stop/restart the Orb service, uninstall/reinstall or visit their forums for help configuring your particular firewall client to work with ORB.

Good Luck!

I tried disabling the software firewall (PC-Illin) and it still told me port 80 was in use. I tried moving over to 8080 and still no joy.

UPnP was/is enabled.
