E-TEN M550: Ready for Launch in the Asian Market
The E-TEN M550 is set to be released in Asia shortly. It comes packed with a Samsung S3C2440 400MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS support, a 2.8" QVGA (240 x 320) TFT-LCD, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 1.2, an SDIO/MMC slot, a 1440mAh battery, and Windows Mobile 5.0. If these specs look familiar, it's because they're exactly the same as that of the M600, except the latter is blessed with Wi-Fi - quite possibly one of the major factors influencing our purchasing decision in this day and age. The M550 has a slightly different button layout - notably, the Contacts and Home (or M-Desk) buttons have been placed above the screen, and the two calling buttons and D-pad taking on a different shape.
Considering what this device has, I'd be more inclined to wait for E-TEN's EDGE-capable devices rumoured to make an appearance later this year.

Seems like a typical OEM move.
Offer an upgrade for an existing device, then release a dot upgrade with WM5.0 pre-installed.
Okay, maybe dell was the only other one to actually do that. And the x50v upgrade wasn't very successful.
But I can say that I upgraded my girlfriend's m500 to WM5.0 and it was incredibly smooth. In fact she's much happier with the device now.
To tell you the truth I think I'm missing the convergence a little.

Well, I took a quick peak at the E-Ten website and there is no mention of a new device called the M670. 256MB of ROM would be nice, but not a big deal.
I was hoping that the M600 would come out with EDGE. It would be the perfect device for me if it did have EDGE. My iPAQ 5550 finally died on me, so I REALLY need a PDA NOW!!! 8)
