PocketPCItalia Reviews The hw6915

PocketPCItalia has posted a quick write-up on the new hw6917, and the specs look pretty sweet: Bluetooth, WiFi, Quad Band GSM, EDGE, And GPS! Add in the external keyboard, and the package gets sweeter. While we're stuck with a small card size (MiniSD), there isn't much to not like about this unit! Check out the English Translation of the review for the text, or just enjoy the stats.

Recently I have been considering getting a Treo 700w GSM when they come out, but then I remembered the replacement model for the hw6515. I'm definately going to wait for it! WiFi, Widcomm BT, no antenna, flip cover, sounds good to me!!

I found one for sale on Ebay. Of course being the person I am I couldn't prevent myself from buying it.
I currently use the Palm Treo 650 which of course is still easier to use but the 6915 is much more powerful especially from the hardware point of view.
I'm more than happy to answer anyone who has any questions about the device but please try to keep the questions simple as I'm not much of a tech geek.
I don't know if it's just in this pre-production device or not but it didn't come with any speech recognition software for voice dialing and such.
A nice feature is the ability to switch profile settings from the today screen, plus the ability to switch on the Wi-Fi, bluetooth, GPS and phone from the same today screen. HP have also added the ability to control these by a long press of the power buttun, when if pressed will pop up a screen of which one chooses which connections to turn off or on.
It comes with a version of Pocket Streets from Microsoft but after using TomTom on my Treo I found Pocket Streets too basic and would buy TomTom if I continue using the device.
Everything else is just like any other W.M. 5.0 device.
Like I said anyone want any more specs please don't hesitate.

Does it support controlling e.g. audio equipment using IR port? (I think no as it has IRda as opposed to CIR, but I thought to ask anyway...)
Does wifi support WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption? If not, which types of encryption are supported?

How can I find out these things for you.
You'll have to give me step by step instructions to find out.
It doesn't come with remote control software so I need to install one to see if it works. Any ideas?

Their other 'oscilloscope'-like ir analysis software works over irda, so this one might work with 6915.
As far as I remember, there was a nice comparison of several remote control apps on PPC Thoughts, but I cannot find it right now...

According to the system information I managed to get out of the device it says: Global Locate. I hope that helps.
