Default APRIL FOOLS: Registry Hack Turns Smartphones Into Pocket PCs

brandon90210 at XDA-Developers found an amazing, little registry hack that enables full Pocket PC functionality on Windows Mobile-based Smartphones. While Microsoft denies any involvement in the matter, an engineer who wished to remain anonymous stated, "I left those values out in the final build by accident, until I actually got tapped on the shoulder by Ballmer himself who said it was brilliant. My bad."

By adding the registry values AddTouchScreenSupport and UnhidePocketPCStuff both with DWORD values of 1 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell, then soft-resetting your Smartphone, you'll turn your Smartphone into a full-blown Pocket PC device. "Who knew all this time it was a touch screen?" says brandon90210. "Oh, and be wary of upcoming eBay auctions that'll try to sell you this in a supposed upgrade, along with a CD full of ringtones and pictures. C'mon, it's just a simple hack, dude."

On a related note, PocketPCTechs will be announcing snap-on styli for various Smartphone models in the next coming weeks. Breathes new life into that MPX200, doesn't it?

You forgot to mention the hack to uncripple Verizon Wireless phones.
