Default SlingPlayer Mobile Beta Released

http://www.slingmedia.com/slingbox/...layermobile.php

"Sling Media, Inc., a digital lifestyle products company, today announced the release of SlingPlayer Mobile as part of a public beta program for Slingbox owners. SlingPlayer Mobile is a new software package that gives Slingbox owners the ability to watch and control their home TV from any network-enabled mobile phone or handheld computer (PDA) powered by Windows Mobile. The SlingPlayer Mobile software available today is compatible with devices that run Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5.0 and 2003 Second Edition. Sling Media will also deliver a version for non-touchscreen devices based on Windows Mobile Smartphone within the next month."

For all you Slingbox users, your mobile client is here - well, in beta, anyway. It's currently a free download from the Sling Media site, though when released on April 26, it will be priced at $29.99. On the other hand, if you purchase and register a Slingbox prior to April 26, you'll receive a free license - so, get registering! Both ClintonFitch.com and pocketnow.com have early reviews of this application.

Third-party solutions exist. For example:

Niveus Pocket Remote

Rudeo Control

It's been said before - and I'm sure it will be said again. . .

www.orb.com

Why spend $200 on the device and 30 on the client when you can get yourself a fairly inexpensive tv tuner card and use orb for free?

I have to say I love this app.
I have been on the beta since the beginning of the year.... and it is a killer application. Personally the Sling solution makes more sense than Orb, but that is just me. The slingbox is a killer device for me... and on my 6700 it really works beautifully. If you have a sling, give it a shot.
To each his own... as long as we get our content!
I love having my tv/tivo/dvd player with me at all times..... it's pretty amazing!

I just violated my VZW terms of service by installing and running this on my i730. I know the data plan police could come knocking at any time, but I don't nomally abuse my plan, so hopefully the'll cut me some slack.

It works very well using an EVDO connection and I was clicking through my saved programs on Tivo within minutes. This isn't something I will actually use all that often, but I am sure I'll use it to kill time at the airport from time to time.

I haven't compared Sling to Orb, mainly because the Sling was so darn easy to setup and use, it just works for me, and I can easily use it with my DirectTV Tivo. It's sure nice to pickup a local sports game when I'm out of town, or just to watch what I want when I want to on my Laptop via WiFi.

I have to agree. Controlling your TV and DVR is much better than just watching it. Orb is a nice app....but different.
